We are passionate about helping our clients tell their stories visually in a way that leaves a lasting impact with viewers.
Editing is hard work that requires some intelligence.
So, for the record I graduated with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering, and later earned certificates in Computer Science and Business Management. But technology keeps changing, and we learn more with each year that passes. Therefore, I keep studying, taking online courses, reading books, attending seminars, or whatever to learn and edit better, smarter, and faster.
That means you are always getting edits that use current techniques and technology, and in a time frame that works for your schedule.
Book smarts can only get you so far. At some point, you have to do genuine work for real people, on actual projects. For me, from 1994 to 2011, that was working as an engineer / consultant. Then in 2011, I became a full-time freelance writer and editor and have done that ever since.
So, I have worked for hundreds of clients, done diverse projects. Yes, I learned a boat load, including how to manage projects as a freelancer, and that means project managing the edits to make sure your deadlines are met. But it also means your edits are organized and well managed which takes much of the stress out of working with a freelancer.
I also gained more than enough real job experience to learn how to work with the various personalities we have as humans, to partner with every client and collaborate with teams of people on larger projects.
I know keeping the information flowing back and forth is crucial, especially in the filmmaking business. Your desires and goals are priority one for the final edit. But how do I know what that is if we don't communicate? I don't. And how do you know if the project is tracking to meet the deadline? Or how do you make that change or addition to include a great new idea you just came up with? You don't if we are not interacting.
Because of that hard truth, I go out of my way to stay in touch. It's also vital to keep you informed of issues and problems encountered along the way, to ask questions.
In short, excellent communication increases the quality of the final edit.
Just look at that happy face! This is my goal with every client.
It's just a fact, I'm a nerd and there's no hiding it. So, might as well just embrace it. I geek out on video editing and can't get enough. There's more to it than doing some cool stuff on a computer. It is another way to create and tell stories in a visual format.
But I also love making people happy. It's always been my way of "giving back." With my editing work that means providing exceptional service and exceeding expectations.
So, how can someone like me do that for you? Well, below is a summary of a few important steps that I take to earn my clients trust and keep them happy on every project. Of course, if there is something else you want to know, or if you have a project to discuss, just contact me and I am happy to provide or do whatever I can.
For those who might wonder, I edit using Davinci Resolve. I do use other programs like CapCut, Blender, Audacity, etc. when needed. But I can output just about any video format you might need. For the most part, I do not use Adobe products, for many reasons, and Davinci is by far my favorite editing software, especially when it comes to color correction, motion graphics, and special effects. Yeah, I know Fusion scares a lot of people. But once you get it, it's so powerful and even easy to use for most projects. So, just let me deal with the nodes and what you get is clean, sharp looking videos when the project footage is delivered.
Yes, it can be done and it's even more powerful in some ways than the expensive, dedicated screenplay writing software everyone keeps telling you to buy.
I know, everyone has heard it. To write screenplays, you MUST buy dedicated software to do it. Well, that's a myth, and it's busted. The word processor you already own is more than powerful enough, if you first take a little time to setup a solid template. The linked site is dedicated to help aspiring scriptwriters on a budget, and it contains the guidance to help you build a rock solid template, without the fuss. What you can have is a powerful tool that in some ways gives you more power than that expensive software that only does scripts.
