I look forward to exploring the science of ecology with you and sharing the

amazing organizing principals of how the natural world works.  My

background and experience in the field of ecology is in doing local native habitat restoration. I worked as a restoration ecologist for twenty-five years for the National Park Service as well as two non-profits. I have taught ecology at CCSF for over15 years.

Online courses:

If this is your first online class you have considered taking, please be aware

that learning online requires student to be organized and be good at time

management.

To succeed in this class, you will need to:

Invest at least 9 hours per week on the two weekly learning units.

This is the same amount of time that non-online students are expected to

invest as well. This time commitment will include reading the textbook,

taking quizzes, watching videos and responding to forums and other

activities like communicating with other students and the instructor, and

working on your lab or paper assignments.

This is an online class with online lab assignments.  We'll

be using the online learning management system called Canvas for the

course.

You will need to log into Canvas at least an hour a day or two to three hours

every other day. Your weekly tasks and the time they require will

accumulate, so you will need to schedule and organize the time required each week. This class is not self-paced, there will be three due dates per week to keep the course moving forward and keep up with the assignments.

The exams will be given during the scheduled class times on Wednesday starting at 9:00 AM so not to conflict with any other synchronous course work from other classes.

You will need to keep up with the weekly assignments and manage your time efficiently.

It is strongly recommended that you schedule your class time

onto your weekly calendar.

You will need a RAMID to log into Canvas and consistent WiFi.
