Edited by Lin Boai and first published in 1922, Nanyang Celebrity Biography is an important document that must be consulted by historical researchers of Nanyang Chinese figures. This collection contains biographies of more than 1960 Chinese who made their living in Nanyang during the turbulent period of the late Qing Dynasty covering not only Singapore, Malaya, and North Borneo during the British colonial period, but also the Chinese community in the Dutch East Indies. The Digital Culture Center of Academia Sinica has rich experience and excellent results in the field of digital optical text recognition (OCR) of ancient texts. Therefore, the Center for Chinese Cultural Subjectivity at National Chengchi University and the Digital Culture Center of Academia Sinica have collaborated to carry out optical character recognition (OCR) for the "Collected Biographies of Nanyang Celebrities" and provide correction feedback to help improve the effectiveness of the optical character recognition model, and it is expected that the optical text will establish a biographical database of Nanyang characters
