ABOUT THE EVENT
Bioeconomy was conceptualized as a knowledge-based activity in Europe in 2005. It has gained momentum rapidly since its birth and from 2012 onwards more than 50 nations have developed strategies for enhancing their bioeconomy. Recent studies based on ~400 biology applications alone estimated the direct global impact of bioeconomy to be around $4 trillion per year in the next 1-2 decades and the sector is poised to exceed the revenues from the internet to which at present 5 billion people are glued to. The potential of bioeconomy when fully unlocked is expected to end poverty, zero hunger, inequalities and improve health and quality of life.
This conference will deal with bioeconomy as a multidisciplinary domain ranging from policy and industrial drive to contemporary and evolving societal issues while addressing the challenges and opportunities such as climate change, bioenergy, food, medicine, textiles, wastes, circular economy, pollution, novel bio-based industries, management of biodiversity in an economic and sustainable way.
A successful transformation to a bioeconomy calls for facilitating an interplay of individual entrepreneurial activity, business ecosystems, governmental support and interventions. Bioeconomy 2023 would provide a platform for an in-depth academic discourse to explore the transformative potential of entrepreneurship in driving bioeconomy and shaping our near future.
