PDH Complexes

E1: Pyruvate dehydrogenase

This is named after the complex itself! 

Cofactor: TPP

• This is used in the first step, where it catalyzed the activity of pyruvate interacting with TPP (Thiamine pyrophosphate) to form Hydroxyethyl TPP

E2: Dihydrolipoyl transacetylase 

Cofactor: Lipoic Acid  (Also uses CoA)

• The lipoic acid extends out from the complex and moves each intermediate to its respective complex! 

E3: Dihydrolipoyl dehydrogenase

Cofactor: FAD
