Complex II

Complex II: (Succinate-Q Oxidoreductase)

-Not a proton pump!!

- both a TCA enzyme and ETC

-Prevents reactive oxygen species formation

-Spans the membrane

1. FADH2 donates electrons to iron sulfur clusters (Fe-S)

2. From here, the electrons move to a Heme b group

3. These then transfer the electrons and the two H+ to coenzyme Q

Note: Complex II contains FAD, which has an oxygen. If the electrons are not shuttled quickly, they will prematurely interact with the oxygen group!
