PURPOSE & FOCUS
Strengthen community resilience to climate change through engagement and infrastructure development. Goals include empowering citizens to advocate for local needs, improving flood risk assessments, enhancing infrastructure resilience, and promoting cross-sector collaboration and grassroots solutions.
Community Engagement: Development of a leadership academy to empower citizen leaders and engage flood-prone and underserved areas through surveys, focus groups and arts-based methods
Flood Resilience: Anticipation of updated FEMA flood maps to address outdated data and unaccredited levees, improving flood risk assessments and resilience planning.
Collaboration and Innovation: Partnerships with organizations like the Department of State and NYSEG to explore migrogrids, solar farms, and sustainable infrastructure, including a veterans' center project.
Engagement and Coordination: Identify neighborhoods for resilience projects and collaborate with community centers to increase resident participation.
Planning and Outreach: Begin community engagement following the hiring of a resilience plan consultant in November, while maintaining connections with local organizations.
Grassroots Focus: Canvas neigborhoods to collaborate directly with residents and establish a steering committee to coordinate efforts across working groups.
