Eilish was raised in Highland Park, Los Angeles by a family of actors and musicians.(2.)(Her parents are actress-musician-screenwriter Maggie Baird and Patrick O'Connell
She was homeschooled, and joined the Los Angeles Children's Chorus at age eight.
She was homeschooled for most of her early years, but that did not stop her from participating in extracurricular activities.(3.) She loved acting in homemade films and also sang and danced whenever she found the chance.(4.)
At age eleven, Eilish began writing and singing her own songs, taking after her older brother Finneas O'Connell who was already writing, perform(10.)ing and producing his own songs with his band.(5.)

"Ocean Eyes" was released as Eilish's debut single on SoundCloud in 2016. A music video was released on March 24, 2016, and a video of Eilish performing a dance to the song was released on November 22, 2016

Eilish’s music career skyrocketed after “Ocean Eyes” went viral,(4.)and she’s still figuring out how to deal(16) with her successes(17) in the past year.
“Who know's how you're supposed to [handle it], you know? There’s no prep for anything like this at all, so I don't know. When stuff just happens you just kind of have to feel it out. It’s been freaking crazy, so I'm really happy about everything.”
She's earned a number of diehard fans, whom she really treasures.
"It's insane. It’s really weird for me because I've been on the other side of it. Like, I'm 15, I know what it's like to be an insane fan of someone and to love someone's work, or to just have someone not know you exist. I feel like it's such a passion and the fact that people feel that way about me is so insane.
"It's really special for me. I don't like to call them my fans because they're my family; they're the only reason I'm anything. So when artists take their fans for granted it's like, ‘What are you? They are the reason you're a person.’ I love my fans so much, I try to devote all my attention to them, whether it's on social media or when I see them in person. I spend as much time with them as I can and make connections with them cause they're people.
