Thank you to the Democratic voters of AD23 in Santa Clara County for re-electing me to another four year term on the Santa Clara County Democratic Central Committee. Onward to Democratic Victory!
Bill leads the Santa Clara County Democrat Party in his role as Chair. He has served as Chair since January 2017 and has been active on the County Central Committee for more than 25 years. Please help Bill continue his work as Chair by voting to re-elect him to the County Central Committee.
In this 4 minute video, Bill explains what the County Central Committee is and does, and what his priorities and accomplishments have been as Chair.
Bill spends many hours every week making plans with fellow activists, representing the Democratic Party at community events, and meeting with elected officials and other community leaders to support them in their efforts and engage them in our work.
In addition to ensuring the Democratic Party is well-represented in the community, Bill has used his role as Chair to ensure all voices in our diverse community are represented and heard. Thanks to Bill, our Executive Board and standing committees reflect the diversity of our community. The result has been a Democratic Party that resonates with young people and people of color, and which addresses a wide range of policy priorities and concerns that arise in every place and group within our community.
Bill has led the effort to integrate our Democratic Party structure, operations, and efforts with the many resistance groups that emerged in the wake of the disastrous 2016 election. Bill stepped up to serve as Chair in January 2017, in the immediate wake of that fateful election, and he's worked hard since to build coalitions and help Democrats win up and down the ballot. Bill started a collaboration with the Democratic Party entities in a number of Central Valley counties. Together, they work to elect Democrats to swing Congressional districts in the Central Valley.
Bill embraces challenges and welcomes change. In his time as Chair, he has revamped the Endorsement Committee to increase the quality and scope of its work, led the Central Committee to revise it's Bylaws to ensure fair and efficient consideration of all matters, welcomed new chartered Democratic Clubs to engage more of our community in our work, and conceived and led the first-ever Youth Takeover of the County Central Committee, resulting in appointment of a Youth Representative as a voting member of the Central Committee and creation of a Santa Clara County High School Democrats club.
Bill works tirelessly to raise funds for the Santa Clara County Democratic Party. He has stream-lined and professionalized the Party's operations, resulting in higher revenues, cost savings, and greater transparency.
Under Bill's leadership, the Party is investing in technology and infrastructure needed to be effective in the digital age. When the pandemic hit, in 2020, Bill led the effort to shift from in person phone banks to online phone banks, bringing activists together on Zoom and training them to call voters from their home phone or computer. Bill and his team have developed in house experts on the use of voter data and communications technologies, such as phone banks, texting, and social media, to reach voters.
Bill shows up, spending 15 to 20 hours a week attending to Democratic Party business and representing the Democratic Party at public events and meetings of public elected bodies. Bill plans and presides at the monthly meetings of the Santa Clara County Democratic Central Committee, which meets most months on the first Thursday of the month, 7pm, at 70 W Hedding St, San Jose. Our meetings are open to the public and all are welcome!
Bill is a father and husband. He's coached AYSO soccer and has been active as a fundraiser and PTA leader at his kids' school. He likes to read novels, run (even on a treadmill!), and play soccer. He believes in public service and helping others, and he's served in the U.S. Navy as well as on the board of the Community Services Agency of Mountain View, Los Altos, and Los Altos Hills, and also has served on the board and as board chair of CHAC, which provides mental health services to families and on-site at schools in Mountain View, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, and Sunnyvale.
During his 7 years as Chair, Bill:
Convened a large Call to Action in early 2017, which galvanized local Democrats and gave them a chance to be heard by the Party
Stabilized the finances of the County Party, raising the funds needed to retire serious debts from 2016 and to fund our campaign efforts
Increased transparency by providing regular reports and revamping the party’s website (www.sccdp.org)
Promoted diversity by raising up members from underrepresented communities into our party leadership and standing committees
Welcomed young activists into the Party by appointing a Youth Representative and hosting an annual “Youth Takeover” of the Central Committee
Partnered with resistance groups such as Swing Left and Sister District to help flip key Central Valley Congressional districts from red to blue in the 2018 midterms and to beat Trump and elect Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in 2020
Recruited an experienced social media team and ramped up social media outreach and campaign ads
Developed a team that publishes a monthly electronic newsletter
Partnered with Democrats in Kings, Kern, and Tulare Counties to elect Democrats in swing Central Valley Districts (use link below to split a donation among our Central Valley partners!)
Advocated passionately for local Democratic candidates and causes
Recruited a volunteer Political Director to lead our campaign efforts in 2024 and beyond
Bill needs your support to continue his effective tenure as a member of the Central Committee and Chair of the Santa Clara County Democratic Party!
