About Me

I'm Bill Haring, a two term incumbent councillor seeking a third term on the District of Clearwater council. 

I have a deep belief in the value of community and public service, and have aimed to spend my career contributing to the public good. I enjoy learning about the issues at the root of every decision that comes to council. I am a big picture thinker, and strive to provide a balanced, rational approach to decision making. I want to fully understand our challenges, identify what elements are in our control and come up with ideas to address them. 

In my personal life I'm a dad, spouse, pet owner, hiker, paddler, cyclist, skier/snowboarder, guitarist, record collector and reader.

Personal History

I have been a resident of Clearwater for the past 11 years, and have deep family roots in the North Thompson Valley. 

My Grandparents, Bill (Sr.) and Faustina Haring, moved to Clearwater in the 1960s and raised their 4 children in Avola and Clearwater. Throughout my childhood I came back to Clearwater to spend my summers visiting family, hiking, canoeing and exploring the great outdoors of Wells Gray Provincial Park.

I grew up in a large family, and we moved frequently. It gave me the chance to get a taste of life in many small communities throughout BC and Alberta. As a youngster I lived in Jasper, Chateh, High River, Prince Rupert and Williams Lake. As an adult I spent 10 years living  and studying in Edmonton, a year in Ankara, Turkey and a year living in Toronto before landing here in Clearwater.

Educational History

After finishing high school in Williams Lake, I obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Alberta. Since then I have obtained a Graduate Diploma in International Project Management from Humber College, and a Primary Care Paramedic certification from the Justice Institute of BC.

Career History

I began my career in Emergency Management working with the Canadian Red Cross, Disaster Management Program in Edmonton. I was involved in the response to the 2011 Slave Lake wildfire, the 2013 Calgary floods and traveled to work in New Orleans after hurricane Isaac. I then went on to work as an Emergency Management Policy Analyst with Alberta Health, which gave me experience in policy development as well as continuing my career in emergency management.

After moving to Clearwater, I worked as a Paramedic for 3 years, giving me an introduction to many of the amazing residents of this area. I now work in healthcare administration, supporting Medical Staff Associations across the interior region. 

I have served as a member of council from 2018 to present and look forward to serving another term if I am elected by the voters of Clearwater.
