Sonoma County Office of Ed now has been printing out red cards for our immigrant families. We have been putting them in backpacks of their children and some of my parents have asked for extras. It is something tangible that we can do to support our families - making sure they understand their rights, so that if ICE comes to pick them up, they can present a card that lets ICE know that they understand their rights. We have heard that this is having a positive outcome in some situations. If you have heard differently, or have your own experience to share, please let us know and we can disseminate to the group. Typically the cards will have English on one side and Spanish on the other. We use red tagboard and print them at school. Here are two websites that you can use if you want to introduce these to your schools. There are also over a dozen other languages you can print them in.
