For this project, I had to a quiz to see if I am addicted to social media. The result of the quiz in addition to my research would influence my opinion on this module.
After completing the “AM I ADDICTED TO SOCIAL MEDIA?” QUIZ I realized I spent too much time on social media when I could spend that time being more productive.
My result says You're fairly reliant on social media, but there are far worse culprits! Still, it's good to be reminded that UK adults spend an average of 8 hrs 41 mins on screens every day, and 4 hours of that on smartphone apps alone (mainly social media). That's about a third of each day checking apps. Do you need to rethink your social media habits and the amount of time you spend scrolling?
I definitely need to be rethink my social media habits, I spend most of time on social media after waking up in the morning which makes me start my day later than expected and late at night.
The summary of this article is confirming that majority of people in the US spends a great amount of time on social media, social media addiction is assumed to be common among teenagers and young adults. I chose this article because it appears that adults also spends a lot of time on social, with 49% of adults visiting Facebook several times daily. In my opinion both adults and teenagers could do a better job with being dependant on social media.
Social media has had a great impact and transformed the world we live in today, from education, communication, Information and building connection with people. In certain ways social media can have negative impacts on our day to day life for example security, law enforcement for example can use social media to keep people safe and offer aid when crisis occurs, at the same time security and privacy can be breached via social media which can be unsafe. Social media is a great way of connecting with people online, but it also expose people to criticism fand negativity from public, which can impact people's mental wellness and potentially cause great damage. The positive impact of social media outweighs the negative part and as transformed our lives and communities for better.
Most importantly, I learned that I need to spend less time on social media, because it impacts my productivity for the day and often results to being sleep deprived in order to complete my daily task. After completing the survey and realized the average time people spend on social media daily , its obvious it is an addiction on most people path and not just myself.
A majority of Americans say they use YouTube and Facebook, while use of Instagram, Snapchat and TikTok is especially common among adults under 30.
