Google MyMaps https://www.google.com/maps/d/
Sign in with your Google account to plot and share routes and places. A useful feature is the use of Layers to map different things, so you can have several routes or sets of places on one map and choose which to display or export. It is good for displaying and sharing maps. Other apps, like Ride with GPS, may be better just for route planning.
Routes: The Draw a Line tool lets you
· Add a line or shape – just click it out and double-click to end
· Add a driving route
· Add a cycling route
· Add a walking route
For the 3 route modes, you click them out and the routing engine does its best to connect the points automatically to suit the mode of travel. There’s no Google stickman in MyMaps to check the route directly, but click a nearby place on the base map and use the ‘View in Google Maps’ link to use the stickman.
Use the 3-dot menu on a Layer for step-by-step directions.
Places: Add a new layer to the map and you can use the ‘Add marker’ tool to mark points of interest. Descriptions and photos can be added to these. Save it, and then choose the ‘Style’ icon to select the colour and symbol. More icons lets you upload a custom icon.
Tip: You can also click any place shown on the base map (e.g. a café) and select ‘Add to map’ to save it on your map.
Layers: The panel on the left shows what’s in each layer. You can select an item, and then drag it into another layer to arrange them.
Import: Add a new layer and you can import a GPX or KML file from elsewhere.
Export: Use the 3-dot menu next to the map title at the top of the left panel. The option to Export to KML/KMZ can be applied to the whole map, or just one layer.
Share: If you want others to see your map, select Share and add individuals’ email addresses, or under ‘Get Link’ select ‘Change to anyone with the link’.
Embed on website: Use the 3-dot menu next to the map title at the top of the left panel. The ‘Embed on my site’ option provides iFrame code that can be pasted into the HTML websites that support iFrames.
