The Big Daddy Classic Rules
ENTRY CONDITIONS
1.Entries may be made by e-transfer
2.This show is open to any individual. In order to promote our safe, family-friendly environment, attendees agree to treat all others with courtesy and respect. Attendees will not bully, harass, threaten, or intimidate any fellow members, attendees, executive, sponsors or show hosts. Attendees agree to provide reasonable care for their equine athletes, not neglect or abuse at any time, and provide emergency care. Any member or attendee may speak to any Executive in real time regarding a concern or occurrence, but also submit concern or complaint by email to sherwoodanwsers@gmail.com within 30 days of occurrence for the Executive to review. Any complaint or concern of abuse or neglect should be accompanied with collaborating evidence or information. The Executive may suspend or revoke prizes of, and or ban participation from any further events, any member or attendee whose behaviour or actions the Executive believes may be detrimental to, equine athletes, spectators, facilities, goals it strives to promote, or for any other reason which the Executive, within its discretion, may deem appropriate. The decision, when voted on and agreed upon by the Executive, is final.
3.The draw shall be done in a random manner. i.e., drawing number chips, or a random computerised draw. Once set, the draw may not be changed except in the event that a contestant is showing more than one horse, when drawing for the second horse etc., may occur until a minimum of 5 horses are between.
4.Cheques must be cashed NO LATER than Dec. 15 of the current year, those cashing their cheque after Dec. 15 lose the value.
5.Pewee class, entrants must have been 9 years of age or younger on January 1 of the present year.
6.To enter a recognized Youth class, entrants must have been 18 years of age or younger on January 1 of the present year.
7.All exhibition runs must be prepaid prior to exhibitions, slots may be chosen on a first come basis. In the event, any of the prepaid riders wish to have additional exhibitions, you may then prepay at the gate before your run, time permitting. A volunteer will be available to accept exhibition requests and payment for our exhibitions.
8.No more than 2 circles around the barrel or a 60 seconds in the pen during an exhibition
9.All riders or their guardians must sign the waiver form stating they have reviewed concussion resources and agreed to our Concussion Code of Conduct criteria to be able to compete. Please refer to Rowan's Law and Concussion Code of sherwood farms
GENERAL RULES
1.To enhance the image of our sport, appropriate, tidy western dress shall be worn at all times. This includes western hat, long or short sleeved collared, full button or zip down western style shirt, and western boots. Hat must be worn in the arena and may not be deliberately knocked or shaken off. In the interest of safety, contestants may wear appropriate riding safety helmets. Untidy dress or unsafe footwear may bring disqualification, at the discretion of the executive/show/judge manager.
2. All riders under the age of 18 must wear a helmet that meets current standards for equipment designed and manufactured for use while riding horses as established by the American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM), the British Standards Institute (BSI) or the European Safety Standards while mounted at all times.
3. All riders must wear hard-soled footwear with a heel of no less than 1.5 centimeters.
4.All riders must have tack properly fitted on the horse.
5. Western tack, except for bits, must be used at all times. The executive/show manager has the authority to require the removal and/or alteration of any equipment judged to be inappropriate, unsafe and/or inhumane.
6.Bats, crops, scat bats, spurs and over-and-unders are permitted. Excessive spurring, cropping or any other abuse of the horse may bring disqualification at the discretion of the executive/show manager/judge.
7. Use of abusive language, harassment of other contestants or show officials, competing under the influence of drugs or alcohol, will result in disqualification, at the discretion of the executive/show manager.
8. Subsequent infractions, as described in rule 6&7, may result in disqualification. There will be no refund of any fees paid in any case.
9. Contestants may ride any horse, regardless of ownership, and may ride as many horses as they choose in a class. However, a horse may not be shown by more than one person in a class. In no case will the same horse be run more than twice in the same class.
10. Electronic timers shall be the only method of timing. There will be dual stacked timers (timer A & B) in the event timer A malfunctions timer B will act as back up timer.
11. In the event timer A & B fail when a contestant is being timed, he or she will be allowed a maximum of 2 reruns to get an official time.
12.. Each contestant shall be ready to enter the arena/ring when called. Once called, the contestant will have a maximum of 60 seconds to start the pattern/timer line. Failure to do so, or running out of order, will result in disqualification. Conflicts shall be determined by the highest-ranking Executive / Director / Judge present.
13. Ties will not be broken except to determine class and championship winners. Monies will be split equally between tying entries. A race off will determine first and second.
14. All dogs must be on a leash. Except VIP dogs.
15.All stallions must be contained in a solid enclosure, i.e. not left tied to trailers.
16. If riding a stud, you must be 18 or over.
17. Excessive mess left at a show by any contestant will result in a $200.00 fine, payable prior to that contestant's next run.
18. No circling of barrels or training during competition runs. If the pattern is broken, the rider may complete the pattern from the point of the break in a timely fashion or leave the arena immediately. Failure to do so will result in a $25.00 fine payable before the contestant's next run.
19. When holding pens are available, only the horses/riders in the next drag are permitted in the holding area.
20. You MUST enter the chute in a safe manner - NO running from beyond the holding pens. Gate starts will be called at judge’s discretion
21.The course must be exactly the same for all competitors. Position of each barrel must be precisely measured and staked so the course can be restored exactly after a knockdown.
22.A chute boss be used to promote safety and keep show running efficiently.
23.In the event that the executive/show manager determines that the barrel positions must be changed for safety reasons, in the middle of a class, the entire class will be restarted from the position that it is stopped. The competitors that rerun will do so in the original order after the last horse of the original draw.
24.No pattern work in the warmup pen. Respect warm up pen etiquette
25. Show Management may allow eligible contestants to rollover/carryover their time in the Open class for the Youth, Senior class. Contestants wishing to rollover a time must declare their intent before the event begins. Any contestant carrying time must pay the applicable entry fee for both classes and is eligible to win prize money just as if the time was run in the other class. If this is done, the Open must be run first. The pattern for the Open, Youth, and Senior must be exactly the same and must not be changed in any manner
BARREL RACING PATTERN
The correct pattern shall be: run across the start line to barrel #1, pass to the left of it and complete an approximate 180 degree turn around, then go to barrel #2 pass to the right of it, and do another 180 degree turn around, then go to barrel #3, pass to the right of it, and do another 180 degree turn around, and then sprint to the finish line, passing between barrels #1 and #2. This course may also be run to the left, in exact reverse of the pattern described above.
1.Failure to follow the course shall cause a contestant to be disqualified.
2.A 5-second penalty will be incurred with each barrel knocked down in the Futurity class only, a knocked down barrel in all other classes will result in a disqualification. Every other class is a disqualification
3.Each barrel of the leadline/peewee barrel race pattern will be moved inward 2 paces from the open pattern.
SENIOR BARREL RACE
1.Must be 50 on Jan. 1st. of the year you are showing.
2.This is a 3-D class with one second splits.
3.You may only rollover the immediately preceding 4D placing to your Senior run.
4-D BARRELS
1.This is our main class & divisions shall be top time (1-D), ½ second behind top time (2-D), 1 second behind top time (3-D) and 2 seconds behind top time (4-D). Example: 15.089 (1-D), 15.589 (2-D), 16.089 (3-D), 17.089 (4-D).
2.A knocked down barrel will be recorded as a “NO TIME”.
PEWEE - 9 and under - This is a Buckle Class with average awards. Full Second Split
LEAD LINE DIVISION - Gifts in the Pony classes will be equally distributed among all competitors.
FUTURITY DIVISION
1.Registered horses or non-registered horses accepted with proof of age. The horse must be entered under their registered name only, at all events. Contestants must be able to provide proof of age upon request. Executive/show manager decision on acceptable proof of age will be final.
Horses in the futurity / derby are required to check in during designated time.
2.Horses must be 5 years of age or younger as of January 1 of present year, and not have competed in any barrel classes prior to November 15 of the year previous to the futurity year. Horses may have entered other events.
3.All Futurity classes will be 2-D with a 1 second split.
4.A knocked down barrel will result in a 5 second penalty including a barrel knocked down and setting up on its opposite end. Touching a barrel is permitted.
5.The Big Daddy will follow current BFA Rule, Chapter 2, #11: To enter barrel futurities, horse must never have competed in any barrel race or futurity prior to November 15 of the previous year. Horses may have competed in other events.
GREEN AS GRASS BARRELS
Mandate: To bring new barrel racers into competing at the provincial level.
Objective: To provide a fun class which is not intimidating to people new to barrel racing.
Eligibility:
1.Rider is new to provincial level barrel racing. Rider cannot have earned more than a lifetime amount of $600.00.
2.If the RIDER runs within 1.5 second of the 1-D winning time, they will no longer be able to compete in the Green as Grass class.
3. Judge will have final call if graduate from Green As Grass
5.Green As Grass barrels will be 2-D, 1 second split.
POLE BENDING RULES
1.Each contestant will begin from the timer line and run straight up to the top pole. The pattern is to be run with 6 poles. Each pole is to be 21 feet apart, and the first pole is to be 21 feet from the timer line. Poles shall be set on top of the ground, 6 feet in height, with no base more than 14 inches in diameter (rubber bases are recommended). A horse may start either to the right or left of the first pole and then run the remainder of the pattern accordingly. The top pole shall be set a minimum of 21 feet off the back wall. Electronic timers must be used.
2.Failure to follow the course shall cause a contestant to be disqualified.
3.Knocking over a pole shall be recorded as a “NO TIME”. A contestant may touch a pole, however, if the course is altered from the original pattern, it will constitute a “NO TIME”, i.e.: a pole is picked up off the ground and placed back down.
4.Pole Bending shall be run as a 3D format with 2 one second splits and the 4 division will be 1.5 second split.
OFFICE RULES
1.Each entry (horse/rider combination) shall pay an office charge.
2.Changes to show entries need to be before classes and not during the run of the classes. (This could change at anytime per secretary discretion)
3.There will be a stricter protocol of using the change forms which will also provide a written proof of changes and fees charged or to be credited back to rider.
Vet outs are the only exception for money back
4.Any refunds on entries will be returned to entrants the week following the events and by e-transfer or cheque.
6. Please respect all Office Staff. With any questions or changes - come to the OFFICE do not approach the announcer booth. Otherwise $20 penalty
AVERAGE AWARDS
OPEN 4D Barrels - there will be 2 Open barrel runs for. The Big Daddy class will NOT count towards the average awards as it is a stand alone class. 4D Format
PEWEE- Average time fo the 2 Pewee runs over the weekend
SENIOR- Average time out of the 2 Senior runs over the weekend - 3D format
YOUTH - Average time out of the 2 Youth run over the weekend - 3D format
GREEN AS GRASS - Average time out of the 2 Green As Grass runs over the weekend 2D Format
FUTURITY - Average time out of the 2 Futurity run over the Weekend - 2D format
POLES- Average time for the 2 Pole runs over the weekend - 2D Format
Example for averages
Run 1 - 15.5 Run 2 - 15.8 15.5 + 15.8 = 31.3 / 2 = 15.65
The Judge has the final ruling for all decisions
GROUNDS AND HOUSEKEEPING
Pile all manure in designated manure area
Respect wash station - clean up your manure and shut off the water when done
Pick up all garbage and put it in the garbage cans
Do NOT remove or borrow any equipment or supplies from Sherwood’s barn without permission
Respect the Sherwoods lawn - Keep horses and vehicles off the lawn
Please keep your trailer area clean and tidy
Please take your garbage with you
Please adhere to our Announcer's rules when calling you into the holding pens
Only 5 horses per holding pen at one time
Other than coaches, no one else is permitted in the holding pens unless you are riding
Please do not stand in front of or in the announcer's booth
Please do not interrupt the team in the booth, if you need something please ask a Staff member
Please keep your horse 6 feet away from other horses
If renting a stall, the stall must be prepaid and cleaned out entirely before you leave, please keep your name tag on the stall at all times and after you leave
Please keep your dogs on a leash at all times and clean up after them
Please do not warm your horse up in the fields as this is our hay supply or in our paddocks, please use the arenas provided for all riding
