Waipio Valley Overlook

Located on the lovely Hamakua Coast on the Northeast side of Big Island, Waipio Valley is the largest of the Seven Valleys in the Kohala Mountains. This unique paradise was lovingly carved by thousands of years of elemental forces working their will on the area. Makalawena Beach

This secluded white sand beach lies like a crescent with lumpy rocks of lava safely cordoning in this piece of paradise. As you arrive you are sure to be greeted by a community of wild chickens. Pu'uhonua o Honaunau

Originally called the Place of Refuge at Honaunau, this amazing location provides a deeper understanding about the nature of the Big Island of Hawaii and an experience that every visitor here should enjoy. Here you will find the expanse of scorched rock that the ruling class of Hawaii made their home in times past. You will also be able to explore their way of life under the palms of Honaunau.

Kilauea Iki Trail

Standing on the Kilauea Iki overlook, you will be given a view of the lightly-etched trail in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park stretching across the floor of the crater. From your 400-foot-high vantage point you will also be able to see specks of people walking along the path. Kilauea Iki is part of a four-mile walking path that loops across the rim of the crater, drops down into the floor and then back up to the top.

Nahuku Thurston Lava Tube

Much like the veins that flow from the center of the volcano, there are great tunnels that were once filled with lava flowing toward the ocean. As the outer layers harden, the interior continues to flow, making that unique tunnel structure. Nahuku Thurston Lava Tube has been dated anywhere between 300 and 500 years old. It has been named after Lorrin Thurston who played a role in the establishment of this park.

Pu'ukohola Heiau,

Pu'ukohola Heiau is a sacred site of worship with an interesting history and tradition that dates back to the days of the great King Kamehameha. According to the legends, King Kamehameha was on a quest to unite all of the Hawaiian Islands under his rule. Seeking direction in his quest, King Kamehameha asked his mother to ask the prophet Kapoukahi for his insights. Kapoukahi told her that King Kamehameha must construct a massive heiau in honor of their family god Ku on Pu'ukohola. According to the prophet, this would ensure that King Kamehameha was successful in his Quest and one day rule all the islands. The great King took those words to heart and press-ganged an extensive task force of “volunteers' ' to begin work on the immense structure that covers an area 100-ft by 224-ft and towers 20 feet over the surrounding plain.
