The Big Bean Theory is an authentic food concept that embodies healthy, delicious food that is fun to eat and interesting to learn about. We believe the bean is one of the most versatile and affordable food items you can prepare. Our business is beans, and we provide food education to the community about using beans. We utilize all types of bean-based items which can be used in all food genres. The Big Bean Theory loves supporting our community and creating new “Believers.” We host and partner with several charities around the city by providing mentorships and fresh, delicious hot soup to our homeless shelters and institutions. In addition, we host a weekly food drive in food desert areas. At the Big Bean Theory, we love turning everyday meals into something “Beantastic.” All products and services are thoughtfully crafted.
Our story started in 2001. Chef & owner Eula McDowell began preparing meals for a small group of people upon request in her hometown of Baltimore, MD, and creating meal kits with chosen ingredients that individuals could prepare themselves. After a few years of growing her following and non-stop catering, THE BIG BEAN THEORY was born!
This venture turned into a rolling hill of unstoppable beans... literally! Big Bean Theory was featured at major Baltimore Farmers' Markets throughout the city and county. In addition to farmers' markets, The Big Bean Theory has opened cafes at Owings Mills Mall, MT. Vernon Marketplace, on occasion, appeared at the R House Pop-Up and other hot spots in the Baltimore Metropolitan area.
Eula of the Big Bean Theory feeds the homeless and partners with various groups in the city. She has collaborated with the mayor and city officials to provide healthy meals. Eula has created fundraisers, implemented fresh and healthy food initiatives, and taught virtual cooking classes for youth and adults. In addition, Eula is a Farmer with the Black Butterfly Urban Farm who attends the Future Harvest Program and is a spokes-person for healthy eating and lifestyle. She is a graduate of ICCC, Goldman Sachs 10k Small Businesses, and plans to use her influence to promote and support UMAR Boxing Program’s mission.
