A Recent flood relief at Chak-kathaliya
This year, due to unprecedented flooding, 70 farmers in Chak-kathaliya village lost their crops. This was a big loss for the people whose yearly income depends on selling those crops. Bidyang Dehi (BD) has an established relationship with the people in this village as we helped them during the time of covid and amphan crisis. We have been helping some of the kids from this village with their education for quite some time.
When they reached out to BD regarding this unfortunate situation, we used some of our reserve fund and with the consent of the donors, we disbursed a total of INR/- 37,125 to the village. This amount is 10% of their total loss which was INR/- 3,71,250. We estimated individual loss by first determining the amount of land they have and based on the crop (either Mustard or Potato) they farm. Thus each of the farmers received an amount that is approximately proportional to 10% of their loss in monetary terms.
Sujoy Munda, who is our volunteer in that village, along with his team arranged a meeting with the villagers and gave them away the relief money. Below are some of the photos and a video from that event.
