Our work is not a direct representation of Grotowski's ideas, but rather a personal interpretation and response to his philosophy.

Director's Note :

My work space is in Kolkata,India.May be in Kolkata,we are the only group who are trying to follow Grotowski's thought in their own way for the last 28 years. But why?

Grotowskiis not only a theatre practitioner who just did some researchto understand the relationships between art and himself,but he was a human beings who makes us move to know ourselves deeper and to purify our life with the creativity in the performing art.

So who is Grotowski fo rme?

To find the answer, I think, we have to search inside ourselves. He is a man as we are. The interesting thing,according to me,is that he knew his limitations and tried to go beyond with his practice with full energy,concentration,knowledge and love.The love is communicating us that theatre is for making relationships.

Without seeing him and without even working with him,Grotowski gave me the lesson that with theatre we can make relationships with ourselves and with others, and with this knowledge we can understand our relationship with the society and with something that moves our existence. Theatre is not only a space for performance, it is a process through which we find life.

Supriyo Samajdar is a visionary contemporary Indian theatre director, educator, and cultural activist. As the founder and director of Bibhaban Theatre Academy in Kolkata.

With a career spanning over three decades, Supriyo has directed numerous groundbreaking productions that have redefined the relationship between audience and actors .His work is characterized by innovative story telling, emotional intensity, and a deep exploration of the human condition.
