We
Around 1996, the journey of our theatre group Bibhaban began. Today almost thirty years have passed. During this long journey many people, many friends and many co-travellers have been part of this path. Some stayed for long, some walked with us only for a short time. But the journey continued.
Over the years workshops with different theatre practitioners and artists helped us expand our vision. They helped us rethink what theatre could be and how we could approach it.
As directors and organisers we often ask ourselves: what do we want from actors? Acting is not only about performing on stage. It is also about observation, discipline and understanding human life.
In our practice we try to encourage actors to observe the world around them. To question themselves. Are they here only to perform, or are they here to understand themselves through performance?
During these thirty years of Bibhaban’s journey and more than two decades of Mukto Natya practice, through theatre we try to understand life and the world around us. If we want to live and work in our own way, there will always be a struggle. That struggle is not with others, but with ourselves.
Bibhaban for us not just a theatre group but an identity and a continuing process of Self-Discovery.
