Nan Layad Nan Likatan is a popular Igorot song about love being hard and worth it. Its' melody comes from a Protestant Gospel Hymn called "Love at Home" or "Love is Spoken Here".
John Hugh McNaughton's produced and wrote "Love is Spoken Here", the song whose melody was used by Timothy Chaokas to write the Igorot Song "Nan Layad Nan Likatan".
Kankanaey Lyrics:
Layad ay nan likatan ta
Inay-aywanan ta
Layad ay nantinulungan
Nalabas da ngam-in
Seg-ang et enggay nan wada
Tan nay ay nanbabawi ta
Sinu ngata di amagen
Nalabas da ngam-in
Din nan-kad-kadwaan ta
Manemnem mu pay ngata
Nabayag ay nantulagan ta
Nalabas da ngam-in
Seg-ang et enggay nan wada
Tan nay ay nanbabawi ta
Sinu ngata di amagen
Nalabas da ngam-in
Wada pay din beb-be-ey
Inarapa-ap ta
Ta waday pante-e-an ta
Ngem nay ay namaga
Seg-ang aet enggay nan wada
Tan nay ay nanbabawi ta
Sinu ngata din amagen
Nalabas da ngam-in
Nan layad ta
Ya(n) tulagan ta
Adi tan ipalubos
Malitaw da ngamin..
English Translation:
Note: This translation is from a literature book of the Saint Louis University.
The love of a lifetime, It's really full of hardship
The love which has been labored, It's all in the past
Commitment and care are all, That exist now
What else can we do, It's all in the past
The time when we were together, Can't you reminisce them?
The time when we had helped each other, It's all in the past
Take on me, Let's reflect once more
Our love with each other
Our love so true, Let us again awaken
Let's come together finally and get married
Our love so true, Every hardship that we faced
It's all in the past
