22nd International Conference on Fusion Reactor Materials in Shizuoka, Japan
John and his post on deformation mechanisms in W-Cu composites at 22nd International Conference on Fusion Reactor Materials
EUROMAT 2025 in Granada
Hasan gave a talk at the Euromat 2025! His presentation focused on additive manufacturing of CuCrZr alloys for nuclear fusion applications and addressed the challenges and opportunities of producing advanced materials resistant to the harsh operating conditions in fusion environments using the LPBF method.
ISIS Neutron and Muon Source User Meeting (NMSUM)
John Cooper gave a talk at the ISIS Neutron and Muon Source User Meeting (NMSUM)! His talk titled 𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐝𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐛𝐞𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐠𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐧-𝐜𝐨𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐟𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬: 𝐚𝐧 𝒊𝒏 𝒔𝒊𝒕𝒖 𝐢𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧.
On the 25th February 2025 Lucy presented on her experiment “3D lattice strain quantification in neutron irradiated ODS steels for fusion energy”.
For this presentation she won Runner-up for Best Presentation.
14-17th October, Lucy, Jatinder, John and Phoebe attended and presented posters on their PhD work at the 2024 Nuclear Materials Conference held at the Singapore Expo, Singapore.
8-9th October, Erin attended and presented her PhD work on powder characterisation, powder mixing and developing printing parameters for CuAg alloys at the Copper Alloys Conference in Stockholm, Sweden.
See more information on this in her LinkedIn post.
John and Yufei performed an experiment on the Engin-X instrument at ISIS Neutron and Muon Source in October.
Xiaohui attended and presented a work on in-situ synchrotron x-ray diffraction study on a TWIP steel under thermomechanical testing, at ESOMAT 2024 13th European Symposium on Martensitic Transformations, in Lecco, Italy 26-30th August.
Lucy, Jatinder, Phoebe and John travelled to the ESRF in Grenoble, France to perform an experiment for Lucy's PhD in September 2024. This experiment used neutron irradiated ODS steel samples on the beamline to investigate the internal strains caused by radiation damage.
In August 2024, the group went for a meal organised by member Hasan. Consisting of traditional Turkish food and drinks, everyone tried something new. Experiencing each other's cultures is an integral part of the group.
Lucy and Chunjiang carried out an experiment designed by Lucy, on the Larmor Instrument at ISIS Neutron and Muon Source. The goal of this experiment was to investigate the distribution of ODS nanoparticles in various ODS steels. This experiment will be used as part of Lucy's PhD.
Information on this experiment can be found at:
This experiment produced important data for Phoebe and John's PhD's.
Lucy presented some of her current research at the 7th Annual Symposium on Ferrous Metallurgy in London in February 2024.
On the 16th-20th of February 2024, four members of our group ran four days of in-situ high and low temperature tensile experiments at the I12 beamline at Diamond Light Source.
On the 14th-20th of February 2024, three members of our group ran six days of bragg ptychography experiments on neutron irradiated steels at the I13 beamline at Diamond Light Source.
The group went out for the annual christmas meal at Bistrot Pierre in Birmingham.
Our research has been highlighted by Diamond Light Source Annual Review 2023-2024.
From the 06/11/2023 to 10/11/2023, Jatinder attended the FLUKA training course hosted by the OECD in Paris, France. The course covered how to use FLUKA, best practices, and provided an opportunity to ask about any issues the users were facing.
On the 9th-13th of October 2023, four members of our group ran four days of in-situ high and low temperature tensile experiments at the I12 beamline at Diamond Light Source.
