Buddy Program
M.Sc. Mathematics Münster
The main goal of the Buddy Program to welcome new students and make their entry to the study program and their arrival in Münster more comfortable. The idea is to team “local“ and incoming students in small groups of 2 or 3.
The Master office M.Sc. Mathematics matches the candidates depending a little bit on their mathematical interests, in such a way that buddies might attend one course or another together. Sometimes the matching may take into account your country of origin, especially if you are coming from outside Germany. Often your buddy will be from a later semester than yourself, and will hopefully help you navigate more easily in the new university environment.
Your buddy should become the first person to contact concerning natural personal questions that may come up regarding the department and university, the city or leisure activities. The locals might share their „knowledge (from within)“ on the different research groups at the department, have precious hints for finding a nice shared flat, or recommend their favorite places to go out, for example.
Please note that you can always contact the central institutions from the university and the department for more formal requests - most prominently the International Office at the University of Münster.
The “local” buddies are encouraged to take the initiative and write a first “welcoming message“ to their incoming partners, and the pairs/triples are encouraged to go out for lunch (or dinner) together at least once within the first weeks of the semester.
