Welcome to Eve! The largest and longest running single shard space-based MMORPG of all time! Eve servers went live in 2003, and have stayed that way since! Considering the sheer scale of the game, it's normal to be a little lost when you first jump in. But fear not! The leaders and membership of BIAMI are here to help! There are a few things you NEED to know to play the game, and most of that is covered in the tutorial:
Training Skills
Piloting your ship
Engaging enemies
Docking
Inventory management
But there's a lot to learn still. Eve has one of the steepest learning curves of available MMO's but if you take it one step at a time, it becomes easy.
One of the first things you're going to want to do is complete all the career path agent missions. This will give you a good idea of the types of things you can do in game. Are you all about the action? You'll probably enjoy the military career path missions. Trying to relax a little bit? Try mining or industry. There's a little bit of everything for everyone in Eve! But the key is to try them all! You'll earn ISK (ingame currency) and experience. The Career Agents fall into these categories:
Enforcer pilots live for war, wielding unimaginable destructive forces that daily reforge the landscape of New Eden. Join this career if you enjoy lasers, missiles, and generally making sure that someone else has a really bad day.
Industrial pilots are the rugged individuals tearing asunder asteroids and reforging them into material to sate the galaxy's ravenous engines of war. Join this career path if you wish to transmute useless space rocks into the mightiest machines mankind has ever known.
These pilots are masters of arbitrage, profiteering, and generally making a space-buck off the sweat of another man's brow. Join this career if you prefer to sit in a leather executive chair, smoking a cigar, and counting your billions as the proletariat does the real work.
Space is vast, and a lot of it remains uncharted. Explorers are dedicated to discovering cosmic anomalies and various signatures. Although risky, pilots are often rewarded greatly. Enter this career path if you wish to find out more about the secrets of exploration.
Pilots on this advanced training program will be introduced to the many commonly used modules and tactics on the battlefield, including interdiction, logistics, and evasive maneuvering. In order to complete this tutorial, a capsuleer must also come to master their own needless fear of death.
Each of these career paths comes with recommended skill plans. That information can be found in the Agency under the NEOCOM menu. Navigate to AGENTS & MISSIONS then CAREER AGENTS. There you will find the relevant skillplans as well as where the nearest career agent for that path is. Once you have completed all the career agent missions, you're ready to move on!
After the career agent missions, you will likely find yourself with a few more ships than you started with, some spending cash in your wallet, and an urge to find out what's next. Everything in Eve from modules to ships to how well you mine space rocks is based on skills. Therefore, long ago some power-gamers discovered there were some base skills that were a necessity to ALL capsuleers. Those are now known as the Magic 14. These skills will aid you regardless of the career you choose. They can be found in the Eve University HERE, but here is the basics:
CPU Management 1
Power Grid Management 1
Capacitor Management 3
Capacitor Systems Operation 1
Mechanics 1
Hull Upgrades 2
Shield Management 3
Shield Operation 1
Long Range Targeting 2
Signature Analysis 1
Navigation 1
Evasive Maneuvering 2
Warp Drive Operation 1
Spaceship Command 1
These skills are not geared toward any one career path or style of play. They will help you better pilot your ship, whether you're in a shuttle or an industrial hauler!
After you have completed the Magic 14 (or while you're training them) you may find space can be kind of lonely. After all, it IS full of nothingness. To that end, you have likely been in a Non-Capsuleer Corporation up until this point. And although they are stock full of players, it's hard to get help there sometimes. At this point you may want to find a Capsuleer corporation to join. By now you probably have at least a cursory interest in one of the career paths over the others. Find a corp that focuses on that, and apply to join! The players in that corp will be able to help you hone your skills, teach you tricks to surviving, and guide you on your path to becoming a master at your craft. If you're reading this, you may have already found one! In which case, welcome! And we look forward to answering your questions and helping you out along the way! See you out in the stars. And as always: Fly safe, and when in doubt, WARP OUT!
