In the AVID Elective course, students receive daily academic support and targeted instruction in developing essential skills to achieve success in college and beyond. Students receive daily instruction in note-taking, time management, organization, reading, writing, collaborating, and study skills. Students are also offered weekly collaborative tutorial sessions with peers to enhance their learning in outside courses.
The AVID Elective course also asks students to establish goals for their future and monitor progress towards those goals. Therefore, students learn about college options, the process of applying and receiving financial aid for college, and career opportunities. AVID is currently offered to students in 9th and 10th grade, and will be additionally offered in 11th grade next year.
