Info for Players

Practices

Practices are held at LA Fitness Cedar Hills, 2800 SW Hocken Ave, Beaverton. Practice times will change a bit from week-to-week depending on coach and court availability and the size of our team. Players can attend as many sessions as they like and there is no minimum attendance requirement. The more you play though, the better you will become! Two sessions per week is a good goal. Practices begin in late September and run through the end of the season in early March.

Current sessions - M/W/F 3:00-4:30; T/TH 7:00-8:30 pm

Coaches

Dave Azuma - 40+ years of teaching experience, over 60 national racquetball titles, 26+ years of coaching High School Racquetball, and 2022 Inductee into the USA Racquetball Hall of Fame

Liz Yee - 20+ years of playing experience, 7 years of coaching experience for Beaverton, and former Commissioner of the Oregon High School Racquetball League (OSHRL)

League Matches

The team has four league matches with other high school teams on Saturdays. We will divide our team into smaller groups of 10 boys and girls for league matches, and every player on our team gets to play - usually several matches throughout the day including singles, doubles, and mixed doubles. League matches will be played at the locations listed below. Matches are played at one location so no traveling is required between sites on match day. Spectators and fans are welcome at all league matches.

Lloyd Athletic Club: 815 NE Halsey St, Portland 97232

Tournaments

The Oregon High School State tournament is run using the Olympic bracket format with consolation rounds. There are singles, doubles, and mixed doubles matches and every player/team is guaranteed 3 matches. All BHS team players are expected to play at States, and the tournament runs for an entire weekend.

Players can also sign up for other local tournaments hosted by the Oregon Racquetball Association (ORA). There is also a national high school tournament held in the spring each year. In 2024, the national tournament will be held in St. Louis, Missouri.

Equipment

Loaner equipment will be available for the first few weeks of practice sessions so new players can try out the sport, but each individual player should invest in their own equipment for the season. Financial assistance is available.
