Volunteers needed for the Fall 2026 schoolyear.
The following tech tips were submitted by parents of BHS and its feeder-schools in response to a BHS PTSA survey in March 2025.
This survey was conducted in connection with a National PTA grant award.
How do your family members use technology to build relationships?
Use online communication tools
Facetime, zoom, and other video chatting
Text messaging and emojis
Group scheduling
Phone calls
Social media
Location tracking
Connect with family members who are staying or living in other cities
Text uplifting messages to a family chat
Send fun memes to each other to show support and make each other laugh
Use phones to do family religious study together each night
Have family movie nights
Play get-to-know-you games online
Play games together, including online board games
What practices could increase online safety and belonging in our community?
Participate in local activities
Utilize hard copy books and writing tools
Invite friends to socialize
Commit to post positive feedback and responses online; save "negative" feedback for in-person conversations
Have frequent parent-student discussions about student's digital behaviors
Teach the prevalence of digital safety risks and how to address mistakes
Gradually educate students while implementing increased access over time
Teach positive and respectful communication in online groups
Consider group social media accounts
Increase efforts to address digital bullying between rival schools
Consider resources from the Digital Citizenship Foundation for parents, students, and schools
Offer students virtual teacher-check-in options during personalized instruction time
Have ongoing family conversations about how technology helps us---and discerning when it starts negatively impacting us
Discuss online safety for and make parent-supervised purchases from local sellers
