My journey as a Mechanical Engineering student at Florida International University has been defined by continuous growth, adaptability, and the pursuit of meaningful impact. Through a combination of academic coursework, leadership roles, professional experiences, and community engagement, I have developed not only strong technical competence but also a broader understanding of global perspectives, collaboration, and responsibility.
This portfolio represents more than a collection of my work—it reflects my evolution as a student, leader, and future engineer. Each experience has contributed to shaping my mindset, strengthening my skills, and preparing me to navigate complex challenges in a globally connected world.
My academic journey has provided me with a solid foundation in mechanical engineering principles, including design, manufacturing processes, thermodynamics, and system analysis. Courses such as Engineering Design, Materials Science, and Heat Transfer have strengthened my ability to approach problems analytically and apply theoretical knowledge to real-world situations.
One of the most impactful aspects of my academic experience has been my Senior Design Project, where I worked on developing a modular microplastic filtration attachment for a beach-cleaning robot. This project allowed me to integrate multiple areas of engineering, including CAD modeling, system design, and performance analysis. It also introduced me to the importance of sustainability and environmental responsibility in engineering design.
Through this experience, I learned how to approach problems from a systems-level perspective, balancing efficiency, durability, and real-world constraints. It reinforced my ability to think critically, collaborate effectively, and apply engineering knowledge in practical and meaningful ways.
My professional experiences have played a crucial role in bridging the gap between academic learning and real-world application. As a Student Research Assistant, I developed detailed CAD models, designed engineering components, and contributed to projects involving robotics and manufacturing systems. This role strengthened my technical precision and attention to detail while also enhancing my ability to work in a research-driven environment.
Additionally, my role as an AI Trainer in the Handshake Fellowship introduced me to the intersection of engineering and emerging technologies. Evaluating AI-generated outputs and improving their accuracy required both technical knowledge and critical thinking. This experience broadened my perspective on how engineering is evolving in a digital and globally connected landscape.
Working as a Student Tutor at the Center for Excellence in Writing further enhanced my communication and leadership skills. Supporting over 50 students and leading workshops taught me how to explain complex ideas clearly and adapt my approach based on individual needs. This experience reinforced the importance of communication as a key skill in engineering and professional environments.
Leadership and global learning have been central to my college experience. Through my involvement as a G1Y Peer Mentor and Orientation Leader, I supported first-year students in transitioning to university life, helping them navigate academic challenges and adapt to a diverse campus environment.
These experiences allowed me to work closely with individuals from different cultural, educational, and personal backgrounds. I developed strong intercultural communication skills and gained a deeper appreciation for diversity and inclusion. I learned that effective leadership is not just about guiding others, but about understanding perspectives, building trust, and creating inclusive spaces where everyone can succeed.
My participation in the South Beach Wine & Food Festival (SOBEWFF) further expanded my global awareness. Working as a lead volunteer in a large-scale international event exposed me to a multicultural environment and taught me how global events operate. It highlighted the importance of teamwork, adaptability, and communication in dynamic settings.
These experiences collectively shaped my ability to think globally, act inclusively, and collaborate effectively in diverse environments—skills that are essential in today’s interconnected world.
Engineering is fundamentally about solving problems, and my experiences have taught me how to approach challenges with both creativity and structure. Through projects, research work, and hands-on applications, I have developed the ability to analyze complex systems, identify inefficiencies, and design practical solutions.
My work in CAD design and engineering modeling has strengthened my ability to translate concepts into functional designs. At the same time, my involvement in research and technical evaluation has improved my analytical thinking and attention to detail.
The senior design project, in particular, emphasized the importance of innovation in addressing global challenges such as environmental pollution. It demonstrated how engineering solutions can have a direct and meaningful impact on society, reinforcing my motivation to pursue projects that contribute to sustainability and long-term impact.
Beyond academics and professional experiences, my journey has been one of personal growth. Balancing coursework, leadership roles, and professional responsibilities required strong time management, discipline, and resilience.
I have learned to step outside my comfort zone, take initiative, and embrace challenges as opportunities for growth. Through mentoring and tutoring, I became more confident in my ability to lead and support others. Through technical work, I developed patience and persistence in solving complex problems.
Most importantly, I have grown into a more adaptable and self-aware individual—someone who values continuous learning, collaboration, and personal development.
As I move forward in my academic and professional journey, I aim to apply my technical knowledge and global perspective to develop innovative and sustainable engineering solutions. I am particularly interested in working in environments that require collaboration across disciplines and cultures, where I can continue to grow and contribute meaningfully.
I also aspire to pursue opportunities that combine engineering with emerging technologies, such as AI and advanced manufacturing, while maintaining a strong focus on environmental responsibility and societal impact.
Ultimately, my goal is not only to succeed as an engineer but also to make a positive difference through my work, leadership, and contributions to the global community.
This reflection represents more than my academic achievements—it is a testament to my growth as a mechanical engineer, leader, and global learner. Each experience documented in this portfolio reflects my commitment to learning, adaptability, and making a meaningful impact.
Through this journey, I have developed the skills, mindset, and perspective necessary to succeed in a rapidly evolving and interconnected world. I am confident that these experiences will continue to guide me as I take the next steps in my career and contribute to shaping innovative and sustainable solutions for the future.
I am proud to be part of Florida International University and grateful for the opportunities that have shaped my journey into becoming a globally aware and future-ready engineer.
