Current Research

Point Cloud Compression

Point clouds are essentially a bunch of 3D samples with position and attributes. They are pivotal for AR related applications and offer interesting compression problems. We are currently looking at coding tools to improve the MPEG G-PCC codec. The motivation is to develop algorithms that will be part of the standards.

3D Gaussian Splat Compression

3D Gaussian splatting has become foundational to novel view synthesis, enabling real-time rendering of complex scenes. However, they generate enormous amounts of data. We are currently looking at approches for efficient compression of Gaussian splats.

Openings

We are looking for motivated students to work on the emerging topics of Gaussian Splat Compression and Point Cloud Compression. We have multiple openings for PhD students, MTech students (both research and project work) and project assistants.
