Officer terms are January-December, with an advisory term the next year January-May when the new officers take over.
Here is the nomination form! You are welcome to nominate yourself or a friend :)

Officer Roles and Descriptions
We have 4 officer roles as defined in the BGSA constitution: President, Secretary/VP, Treasurer, and Outreach Coordinator. More than 4 people can be officers if multiple people want to work together on a role (e.g. Co-Outreach Coordinators).
All the roles are fairly flexible and the duties outlined below mostly do not necessarily or only need to be done by the person in that role. Each group of officers will come to their own agreement on exactly what each does.
President/Chair:
Keep track of larger projects and goals, delegate specific tasks to other officers as needed!
often acts as 'host' at meetings, including setting agendas (with input from other officers) and keeping the meetings on track/flowing.
Main point of contact/representative for BGSA, some overlap with outreach coordinator (degree of this is flexible) in terms of emails, discord channel management etc.
maintains Officer Handbook!
Secretary/ Vice-President
Takes meeting notes (or makes sure they get taken)
Attends faculty meetings (Thursdays @ 1pm) as the grad student representative, and reports back to BGSA
usually the backup meeting host
Treasurer
Keeps track of BGSA funds (obviously!)
Works with Student Leadership and Involvement office (SLI) to make sure payments are made for events and grant/donation money is deposited
Outreach coordinator/Social Media Manager
Manages Facebook/Instagram accounts and posts events etc.
Admin on UAF science Graduate Students Discord Server (jointly with GIGSA leadership), also posts BGSA events etc
Emails regarding events and other communications
All the officers contribute to organizing and set-up/take-down for events. Any tasks related to larger projects and events are distributed among the officers.
BGSA officers also have the chance to represent grad students and the Bio Dept in other situations. For example we were asked as 'student leaders' to interview Vice Chancellor of Research candidates this fall.
BGSA officers are also the core/leaders of the Midnight Sun Science Symposium (MSSS) Planning Committee. Planning MSSS in the spring is the biggest set of tasks for BGSA officers, but there is lots of help from previous officers and other grad students who are interested!
