"A hobby a day keeps the doldrums away" - Phyllis McGinley

I started painting an eternity before I came to appreciate the synchronized relay of numerous cognitive processes that culminate into the creation of an artwork. Simplistically speaking, to draw a vase, one has to access the memory, form a mental image, and execute the drawing via sophisticated motor control and visual feedback to match the mental template.
Besides the fascinating neural synchronization orchestrating art, it has always helped me relax, probably attesting the alpha-power gain (correlating with the state of relaxation) in individuals after an artmaking task reported by King, et al. 2017.
My favorite art medium is acrylic, though I have recently started experimenting with mixed media and alcohol ink. I love visiting galleries and have exhibited my artwork at art galleries in India and at the Pacific Arts Market in Vancouver.
Though I have never had formal training in dance, I have received guidance from my mother, who was an Indian classical dancer.
Dance is a medium of self-expression for me and has been a great tool of relieving stress to the beats of music.
Here in Vancouver, I have instructed Bollywood dance classes at the Kerrisdale Community Centre, which was a great experience for me.

Kayaking is a brand new hobby for me, which I picked up this summer. It started as an attempt to overcome my fear of water but soon turned out to be a sport I enjoyed.
Till now, I have kayaked mostly in the Pacific Ocean starting from different locations in British Columbia.

I believe the key to the perfect work-life balance is having one hobby at a time!
