To get an insight into which kinds of experiences girls and boys at our school have already made with harassment, we designed questionnaires for them and asked them to fill them in anonymously. We decided to only include students from the 4th up to the 8th form in our survey, as we thought this was the age group which was most affected by harassment. In total 131 students took part in the survey, 79 girls and 52 boys. Sadly, we didn't get any data from the 8th forms, as they had already graduated.
The girls' questionnaire had the purpose of finding out what had already happened to them. It looked at the topic of harassment from a victim's point of view. For example, we wanted to know if they had already ever been in a situation in which a man/boy had made them feel uncomfortable and what the man/boy had done (cat-called, stared, touched, etc.). We also asked them to share some of their experiences with us in open questions, some of which we used as testimonials. The full results of the girls' questionnaire can be accessed HERE.
The boys' questionnaire was more about finding out in what kind of behaviour they or their friends had already engaged in. It looked at the topic of harassment from the perspective of the perpetrator or bystander. We specifically asked the boys whether they had already done certain things which would classify as harassment (cat-calling, staring, touching, etc.) or if they had ever witnessed someone engaging in this kind of behaviour. We also asked them how often they witness such a behaviour and if they had ever stepped in in such situations. The full results of the boys's questionnaire can be accessed HERE.
