About Me
Welcome to my portfolio! I’m Juan Martinez, a driven and ambitious Business Administration student at the University of New Mexico. I’ve always felt confident in my English abilities, and this course was an opportunity for me to sharpen my skills and push my writing to the next level. Rather than learning the basics, I focused this semester on refining my voice, developing deeper analysis, and learning how to tailor my writing for different academic and professional contexts.
One of the highlights of this class was my literary analysis titled “The Struggle for Consciousness: Analyzing Afternoon Class.” In that project, I explored the emotional and psychological layers of a short animated film that captured the all-too-familiar battle of staying awake in class. The assignment helped me dive into visual storytelling, symbolism, and mood—making me think more critically about how meaning is constructed without words. It pushed me to be more observant and analytical, and to craft an argument that was both insightful and supported by evidence.
Later in the semester, I wrote a research paper on why commercial real estate is a better investment than residential real estate. That project allowed me to combine academic writing with my career interests. It gave me the chance to work with scholarly sources, structure a long-form argument, and present my ideas in a formal and persuasive way. The process helped me see how writing is not just a school skill—it’s essential to building credibility and clarity in any professional setting.
Even with my strong foundation, I’m always looking to grow. Right now, I’m working on expanding my sentence variety, improving flow between paragraphs, and trimming down any unnecessary wording. I want every sentence in my writing to serve a purpose—whether I’m submitting an essay, a business report, or a client proposal.
My ultimate goal is to start my own real estate company. I know that strong writing and communication will play a huge part in that journey—from branding to negotiations to building trust with clients. This class reminded me that even when you’re confident, there’s always room for refinement and growth. I’m proud of the progress I’ve made this semester and excited to carry these skills into the future.
