CALENDAR OF EVENTS
Thursday, July 2nd:
10:00 am - 9-hole Golf Outing at The Links at Groveport.. Classmates, guests, and spouses welcome. Cost: $26pp to be paid at the course. Includes cart/greens fees. Please contact Peter MacKay (petermackay1958@gmail.com) if you have questions.
5:00 - 8:00 pm, rain or shine - Pizza and Ice Cream Social (Johnson’s and Rubino’s, of course!) at the home of Beth (Bishoff) Opgrand. 2402 Commonwealth Park North, Bexley (Classmates only, please). Enjoy pizza, ice cream, beer, and soft drinks as you reacquaint yourself with old friends and make some new ones! Practice your putting stroke on the putting green, pick up your reunion t-shirt, and enjoy the musical stylings of none other than our favorite teacher, Keith Klaiber! *No byob, please! You do not need to bring anything. All food and drinks will be provided!! A class photo will be taken at 7:00 pm. Friday, July 3rd:
9:00 - 12:00 - BHS Alumni Open House gathering at the high school sponsored by the Bexley Education Foundation. Stop by with friends or family and take a quick tour of our old stomping grounds. Reminisce as you walk the hallowed halls and see the “ch ch ch changes” of the past 50 years! Please RSVP here if you plan to attend.
5:00 - 9:00 pm - BHS CLASS OF 1976 50TH REUNION MAIN EVENT! - Our 50th Reunion Celebration at The Columbus Country Club, located at 4831 E. Broad Street. The party is from 5-9 pm, with hors d’oeuvres, dinner buffet, desserts, and a cash bar. Spirit Of Bexley trivia will be on full display, along with yearbooks and mementos. A photographer will be on hand throughout the evening. A class photo will be taken at 7:00 pm. Attire - dressy casual. Please, no jeans, no shorts, no t- shirts. Spouses are welcome and encouraged. (Reunion t-shirts will be available for pickup if you missed the Thursday event). Please note: just like Rubino’s, bartenders will only accept cash . No Zelle, no Venmo, no credit card…..ONLY CASH. *Also, no tipping the bartenders; the 50th Reunion Committee is taking care of the gratuities for the evening!
Saturday, July 4th:
9:00 am - Gather at Maryland Avenue School at the corner of North Cassingham Road and Maryland Avenue with your classmates to ride in the Bexley 4th of July parade. We have arranged for a truck for classmates who may need to ride. We have some space on the truck for folks with limited mobility. Depending on space, riders can switch off. You are also welcome to ride a bike or walk along the 2-mile route. We will supply some candy to toss for the kids, but feel free to bring a bag of your own. (Individually wrapped pieces, please) Please throw candy beyond the curb. We don't want to encourage kids to run into the street. NOTE: the City of Bexley has guidelines we must follow. No attire/signs can be suggestive, divisive, religious or campaign oriented. No water guns or balloons. *Smoking and alcohol during the parade is prohibited*
4:00 pm (weather permitting) - Let’s cycle ! For those of you who enjoy a workout, Bill Payne will be leading a group of cycling “SOB’s” on the Alum Creek Trail bike path. Interested cyclists (of intermediate level and above) should meet (with your bike), at Wolfe Park, in the parking lot by the tennis courts. The group will cycle 15-20 miles (exact distance TBD). Should you want to cut it short, you can turn around on the path and head back home at any time. Everyone will meet up afterwards at The Old Bag of Nails (on Nelson Rd near corner of Nelson and Broad) to catch up and share a beer. All classmates are welcome to join us for this optional gathering at the Old Bag of Nails beginning at 6:00 p.m. Feel free to stop by anytime during the evening. (If you're cycling, be sure to bring your helmet, water bottle, protein bars or snack, and $ for Old Bag of Nails. Please contact Bill Payne (billpaynecorvette@gmail.com) with any questions. ** Please note that cyclists are unsupervised and choose to ride at their own risk**
Sunday, July 5th:
8 -10 am: Open Pickleball Play - location TBD. Classmates and spouses are welcome to play, with all players rotating in and out. If interested, please contact David Fulford (dmfulford@outlook.com)
10am-12pm: if you aren’t interested in pickleball, swing by The Lion in Bexley (2511 E. Main St) to meet up with your classmates for coffee and a pastry before you head home. Pickleball players, stop by afterward!! (The Lion is located in the small shopping center across from the CVS on Main Street.)
Our photographer will be taking photos throughout the weekend and creating a video of our celebration – a “must-have” memento, available to all soon after the reunion. And please be sure to send any candid photos you take throughout the weekend to meggiewebs@gmail.com by July 8.
