Beverly High School Sailing Attendance Policy
If you have more than 3 unexcused absences or 15 total absences, you will not receive a varsity letter, and you will not be eligible for regattas (starter or alternate). However, we would still love to have you on the team to practice, gain skills and have fun!!
Vacation week practices and any weekend practices held will not count negatively toward absences. This policy is in effect 3/24 and previous absences will not have an effect.
Excused (counting to 15 total) absences can be removed by attending practices during vacation week or any weekend practices held. Attending weekday regattas you are not sailing in can also remove excused absences!!
Excused Absences:
Participating in school clubs/musical rehearsals that directly conflict with practice
Major school events, such as attending prom
Doctors/Medical Appointments
College/Career Visits
Funerals/Weddings/Major family events
Sick or Injured and did not attend school (or did attend school but spoke to a captain)
Injured and can’t sail
Unable to get transportation to sailing after discussion with captain
Extenuating Family Circumstances (discussed with a captain)
Work Commitments
Being out of town
Unexcused Absences (examples):
Homework
Hanging out with friends
Not informing a captain of why you are not at practice
Anything not on the excused list
For an absence to count as excused, please fill out this form before the start of the school day. If it is an extenuating circumstance or something last minute, please reach out to a captain and we are happy to figure something out!!
If you have any questions regarding our policy please reach out to a captain. We really want people to have fun with sailing while also rewarding people for coming as much as possible! Again, even if you don’t meet the attendance requirements, we would still love to have you on the team to gain skills, practice and have fun sailing together!!
