Sports Investors suffer from oversaturation of gambling advice, app fatigue, and no ability to communicate with each other. Better Betting drowns out all the noise and provides one platform that solves all these pain points to make users more profitable.
After meeting as a group and going out and doing our interviews, we came back with a similar theme throughout. This theme and our personal interests in betting is what really made us come up with this idea. Not everyone we interviewed talked about betting or fantasy sports, but we did have people say they didn’t do anything of that nature which led us to coming up with this fan that isn't talked about in the sports world. We started out thinking about the problem that arose with these types of fans. First, we had to create a label for these fans that were new to the sports scene and are different. Once we came up with the term “sports investor” we really started to put our idea together. After we defined and came up with our target market, we faced a difficult time of coming up with what we want to give these fans. Some of us in the group would consider ourselves sports investors so we had to think of the best or most useful thing we could come up with that is new and different. We wanted to create a platform for these sports investors that lets everyone have a voice and compare their ideas with another sports investor in one place. We had to think out the smartest way to get this to the sports investor and that’s where we made the choice that a mobile app would be the easiest way to get directly to sports investor. Once we got the outline and idea then we started thinking about how we can pull this off and make it different than other basic sports apps that are out there. We started working on everything in the app that we wanted to include and how it will work. Going through different parts of the app and figuring out how we want them to work and look was very interesting and difficult at the same time. At times we were stuck thinking about how the app would look and work and what we wanted to put in the app. After using some design thinking and communicating throughout our group, we came with the top things that let us standout from everyone and made sure to spotlight them in our pitch. We started by integrating the community posts, this is what allows the community to communicate and interact with each other on anyone’s post. After this we came up with a ranking system that let the community itself judge and rank someone off their ideas and advice that they put out. This ranking system goes along with the voting system that we also put into the app, which lets users up vote and down vote on posts which makes them more popular on the community tab. These are the ideas that we brainstormed which lets us branch out and not be like any other sports app on the market today.
With 6 more weeks, there would be several things that we could do in order to grow our idea even more. The biggest one being that we could collect our own data. With our target market being sports investors, we feel that talking to fans who consider themselves a sports investor would help us better understand many different things. First off, it would help us better understand just how big our target market and give us a better example to explain the size of it. When talking to these sports investors, we would be able to better understand how often the bet, how much they bet, what sites they use, how many sites or apps they use, the sports they bet on and much more. Everyone has a different way they go about it and talking to those fans who consider themselves sports investors would give us real life examples we could use and put towards or idea to grow is even further and make sure it is tailored to meet the needs of sports investors.
As a group we learned that creativity and innovation are not something you can just learn in class. Creativity is a skill that a lecture cannot teach you. Creativity needs to be applied often in order to achieve mastery of this skill. The design thinking process gives you the tools you need to be creative and innovate along the way. Creativity is a not just a defintion, it is a process. Throughout the semester we went through the creative process while developing our app. We came up with new ideas from class to class and meeting to meeting. We were innovative in our methods. When things didn't work or pan out how we thought they would we used innovation to get through roadblock and eventualy create a solution we were proud to present.
Better Betting is an app that brings together a community of people who want to make money through sports. A group of people that no longer want to look at sports gambling as a hobby. These people are sports investors. The app is split into three sides, all related to sports gambling: betting, fantasy, and community. The main betting and fantasy page is filled with content from our sites experts. The community tab brings together sports investors of all backgrounds to share content and become more profitable. Users will share posts and receive feedback through likes, dislikes, and comments. The better the ratio of likes to dislikes, the higher or lower on the community page that users article will be seen by other users. The ratio system we have in place is very similar to the system used by the popular forum site, Reddit. As well as the ratio system there is a five star ranking system in place to determine the credibility of users posts. The more likes you get over time you will move up through the star system in order to see which users have a consistent history of positive feedback in the community. In the sports gambling industry there is an oversaturation of information from so called “experts”. It seems that every month there is a new sportsbook in the market as well as an app to go with it to give users betting information. There is also nowhere to go for sports investors to come together and collaborate. Better Betting cuts through these pain points and gives users one place to come together to become successful and use the wisdom of the crowd to choose who they think are really experts. We align with the meteoric rise in the United States sports gambling industry to make our users more profitable. That is Better Betting.
