Privacy Policy

Better Cleaner Chrome BETA is a Chrome extension that replaces the standard Chrome New Tab page with a customizable personal dashboard.

This privacy policy explains what information the extension accesses, how that information is used, and when information may be sent to third-party services.

Local Dashboard Data

Better Cleaner Chrome BETA allows users to customize their dashboard with features such as notes, to-do lists, shortcuts, layouts, timers, appearance settings, backgrounds, and widget preferences.

This information is stored locally in the user's browser using browser storage technologies such as local storage and IndexedDB.

The developer does not operate a server that receives or stores this dashboard information.

Gmail Integration

Gmail integration is optional.

If a user chooses to connect Gmail, Better Cleaner Chrome BETA uses Google's OAuth authentication system and requests read-only Gmail access.

The extension may retrieve information necessary to display the Gmail widget, including:

• Unread message counts

• Sender names and email addresses

• Email subjects

• Message snippets

• Message dates and times

This information is used only to provide the Gmail inbox preview requested by the user.

Better Cleaner Chrome BETA does not send emails, modify emails, delete emails, or request the user's Google password.

Gmail information is not sold or used for advertising.

The extension does not permanently store Gmail message contents on a developer-operated server.

Users may disconnect Gmail from within the extension.

Better Cleaner Chrome BETA's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Weather and Location

The Weather widget is optional.

Users may provide a location by entering a city, state, ZIP code, or similar location, or they may choose to allow the extension to use their device's current location.

When weather information is requested, location information may be sent to Open-Meteo and the Open-Meteo Geocoding API to determine the location and retrieve current weather information.

Location information is used only to provide the Weather widget.

The extension does not use location information for advertising or tracking.

Music Controls

The optional Music widget can interact with supported music websites, including services such as:

• Spotify

• Apple Music

• Pandora

• YouTube Music

• YouTube

When the Music widget is used, the extension may examine supported music tabs in the browser and read playback-related information such as:

• Song or media title

• Artist

• Album artwork

• Playback status

• Playback position

• The supported music service being used

This information is processed for the purpose of displaying and controlling music from the New Tab dashboard.

The developer does not operate a server that collects users' music listening information or general browsing history.

Website Tabs and Browsing Information

Better Cleaner Chrome BETA may check open browser tabs to locate supported music services when the Music widget is enabled.

Tab access is used only for extension features that require interaction with supported websites.

The extension does not use browsing information for advertising, behavioral profiling, or analytics.

Website Content

The extension may access limited content from supported music websites when necessary to determine playback information and provide music controls.

The extension does not collect arbitrary webpage contents or keystrokes.

Shortcut Icons

When displaying website shortcuts, Better Cleaner Chrome BETA may request website favicon images through Google's favicon service.

The website domain may therefore be included in a request to Google's service in order to retrieve the appropriate icon.

Authentication Information

Google authentication is handled through Google's OAuth and Chrome Identity systems.

Better Cleaner Chrome BETA does not request or store users' Google account passwords.

Authentication tokens are used only to access the Google services the user has chosen to connect.

Data Sharing

Better Cleaner Chrome BETA does not sell user data.

Information is shared with third-party services only when necessary to provide a feature requested by the user. Examples include:

• Google APIs for optional Gmail integration

• Google favicon services for website shortcut icons

• Open-Meteo for optional weather information

• Supported music websites when providing music controls

User information is not transferred for advertising, creditworthiness, lending, or unrelated marketing purposes.

Advertising and Analytics

Better Cleaner Chrome BETA does not use user information for targeted advertising.

The extension does not contain developer-operated behavioral analytics or tracking intended to create advertising profiles.

Data Retention

Dashboard customization information remains stored locally in the user's browser until the user removes it, clears browser or extension data, resets the extension, or uninstalls the extension.

Gmail information is retrieved as needed to display the Gmail widget and is not permanently stored on a developer-operated server.

User Control and Data Removal

Users can stop optional data access by:

• Disconnecting Gmail from the extension

• Disabling or not using location-based weather

• Removing or disabling the Music widget

• Clearing extension/browser data

• Uninstalling Better Cleaner Chrome BETA

Uninstalling the extension removes data stored by the extension according to Chrome's normal extension-data handling.

Children's Privacy

Better Cleaner Chrome BETA is a general-purpose browser productivity tool and is not designed to knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

This privacy policy may be updated as Better Cleaner Chrome BETA changes or new features are introduced.

The date at the top of this page will be updated when material changes are made.
