2017 – Present: Director, Behavioral, Epidemiological & Clinical Sciences Division, FHI 360, Durham, NC
Manages a group of 24 researchers, including 10 PhDs. Works with scientists to develop the long-term vision and scientific direction of the team, including identification of new funding opportunities. Provides technical review and approvals for proposals, workplans, protocols and knowledge products produced through the division’s research agenda. Identifies and facilitates collaborations within and external to FHI 360. Directly supervises up to eight scientists. Mentors junior scientists and is the primary point of contact for senior management related to division activities. In addition to management and supervision responsibilities, continues to lead own research agenda. Serves as President for Triangle Area Population Society. Serves as an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Maternal and Child Health Department of the School of Public Health, University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.
2015 – 2017: Director, Social & Behavioral Health Sciences Division, FHI 360, Durham, NC
Managed a group of 20 researchers, including 8 PhDs. Provided scientific direction, as well as technical and budgetary oversight of own and group’s projects. Directly supervised 6-8 scientists, provided mentoring on project work and conducted performance appraisals. Managed a group of approximately 24 research staff, ensured efficient use of division budget, coordinated labor allocations, and worked with staff to set division mission, goals and standards of quality. Actively promoted and facilitated the growth of the division’s research and technical assistance portfolio within and external to FHI 360. Participated on NIH review panels. Served as the Program Director for Triangle Area Population Society. Served as an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Maternal and Child Health Department of the School of Public Health, University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.
1994 – 2015: Progression from Research Associate to Scientist III (since 2013), Behavioral & Social Science Research Unit, Global Health Research Department, Family Health International, Research Triangle Park, NC
Designed and conducted behavioral and programmatic research in developing countries with a focus on acceptability of contraceptive and HIV-risk reduction technologies. Specific responsibilities included: project development and implementation, data management and analysis, study monitoring and report writing. Conducted workshops on the use of qualitative research data collection and analysis for data collectors of own studies, as well as for the WHO, NIH Institutes and other partners. Led author of a Jossey-Bass publication on the use of qualitative methods for reproductive health research. Provided technical assistance to in-country researchers. Collaborated with other FHI staff as needed on working groups to develop and implement organization-wide strategies. Provided technical reviews for scientific journals, including AIDS & Behavior, AIDS Care, PLoS One and Journal of Women’s Health.
1993 –1994: Consultant, Apnalaya, Bombay, India
Designed and conducted participatory research to understand the context of women's health in a Bombay slum. Assisted Apnalaya to develop strategies for improving the health and well-being of poor women in their project area. Conducted in-house training program on the use of participatory research methods for NGO social workers and para-professionals.
1992: Consultant, Crop International Research for the Semi-Arid Tropics, Hyderabad, India
Provided qualitative data collection training to field investigators on a project aimed at identifying proxy indicators of seasonal food insecurity in rural India.
1991 – 1993: Consultant, Johns Hopkins University Project on Qualitative Methods for Research on Women's Health Issues, Bombay, India
Provided in-country logistical support for a 5-year Ford Foundation-funded training project aimed training Indian researchers and advocates on the use of qualitative methods for women’s health research.
1990 – 1991: Volunteer Coordinator, The Washington Free Clinic, Washington, DC
Provided basic health screening and medical intake for patients at the clinic.
1989: Consultant, The Pathfinder Fund, Cairo, Egypt
Summer internship, working with local program staff to develop a map and collect program information for in-country programs. Visited several Pathfinder clinics.

Visited and provided support to Peace Corp volunteers in the education program, assisting them to identify opportunities to better engage in the local community.

Taught English as a second language to three classrooms of students at an all-girl high school in Oujda, Morocco.
