President
Jorge E. Diaz currently serves as the Superintendent of the Middlesex County Magnet Schools, where he leads some of the top high schools in NJ. He is a member of the executive committee for the NJASA, NJSIAA, and NJALAS. He is a seven term Councilman in the Borough of Carteret, having served as Council Vice President, President, and Deputy Mayor. Jorge graduated from Rutgers University in 1995 and earned a Masters degree from Kean University in Educational Leadership. Jorge is a brother of Beta Chapter and has served in various roles including National President and Chairman of the Board of Trustees. He co-founded the national foundation and is the founder of the Beta Leadership & Educational Foundation.
Treasurer
Armando A. Patino is a self-employed Financial Advisor affiliated with Prudential, bringing years of expertise in helping clients navigate their financial journeys. He graduated from Rutgers University in 2000, and since then, he has dedicated himself to providing personalized financial advice and solutions.
A proud father and husband, Armando currently resides in East Brunswick, New Jersey, with his family. He enjoys supporting his daughters as they pursue their passions in wrestling and dance competitions. Armando pledged at Beta Chapter in the Fall of 1997 and continues to be an active part of his fraternity.
With a strong commitment to both his profession and family, Armando strives to balance his career with his personal interests, ensuring a fulfilling life for himself and those around him.
Secretary
Daniel Diaz graduated from Rutgers University in 1998. He earned a Masters in Computer Science from the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT). He is employed by the North Bergen Public School District as the Supervisor of Technology. He pledged Beta Chapter in the Spring of 1994. He has served in various roles including National Vice President and currently as the Director of Communications for the Northeast Regional Board.
Trustee
ROBERT MERCADO currently serves as a Commissioner on the Essex County Board of County Commissioners. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Rutgers University, a Master of Public Administration degree from Rutgers University–Newark, and a Master of Social Work degree from Rutgers University–New Brunswick.
His roots are deeply planted into Newark’s largely Latino North Ward. During the last 25 years, Robert has worked in the field of social work and juvenile justice in New Jersey. He previously served in positions at Youth Advocate Programs in Essex and Hudson Counties, Creative Consulting Services, Inc., La Casa de Don Pedro Community Center in Newark, Youth Consultation Services, Hudson County Children’s Shelter, Independence: A Family of Services (a social service community-based agency in Newark), and North Ward Center Youth Leadership Development Program. Since 1997, he has served as the Northern Regional Supervisor of the Juvenile Justice Commission’s Office of Juvenile Parole and Transitional Services.
Robert Mercado is a former member of the New Jersey Supreme Court Committee on Minority Affairs. Additionally, he is a Past National Board President and Past Rutgers (Beta Chapter) President.
Trustee
Gilfrank Nunez is a dedicated school psychologist with extensive experience in both educational and clinical settings. Born and raised in Perth Amboy, NJ, and of Dominican and Puerto Rican descent, Gilfrank has always been passionate about supporting students' emotional and academic growth. He currently serves at Middlesex County Magnet Schools in Piscataway, NJ. where he conducts psychological assessments, develops individualized education plans (IEPs), and provides counseling services to students with diverse needs.
With a strong background in special education and psychological support, Gilfrank has worked in various roles, including Perth Amboy Public Schools and the Boys and Girls Club of America where he supported student development through counseling, crisis intervention, and health programs. In addition to his role as a school psychologist, he also serves as a high school wrestling coach, further contributing to the personal growth of students outside the classroom.
Gilfrank holds a Master's degree in Educational Psychology from New Jersey City University, a School Psychology Certificate, and is bilingual in English and Spanish. Passionate about student success, he continues to enhance his skills through specialized training, including certifications in crisis intervention and the Nurtured Heart Approach. A proud member of BETA Chapter (Spring 13), Gilfrank's Greek affiliation has instilled in him a deep commitment to service, leadership, and academic excellence Through his fraternity, he has cultivated strong community ties and honed his leadership skills, which continue to shape his professional life.
