Introduction

On March 9, 2023, Kountiala Jean de Dieu SOME shared a Radical collaboration project idea with Members of the Burkina English Teachers Association (BETA) for the co-collection of resources that can be centralized into one accessible product for any educational need of English Teachers in Burkina Faso. After six days of expectations, he got only one source from one ESL teacher, a resource with downloadable materials.

Creating this type of material was well appreciated in the WhatsApp group, where many teachers have often reached out for specific text of listening, speaking, reading, or writing materials. We would sometimes share those materials, and from chat to chat, they disappear, and one day the same need comes again from a different teacher.

Kountiala Jean de Dieu SOME Put this together and believes it could be useful to most of you.  Share any resource that could be added to the list through this link.

List of resources for ESL Teachers

Let’s start with this national resource that gives you access to a lot of past national exams and other texts that could be useful as they are linked to national curricula:

On this site, too, you would have access to a lot of personal development materials.

My English Pages website provides teachers with free resources for speaking, Listening, writing, and reading classes. There are many resources for all levels and guides on how to teach them. But remember, as a teacher, it is your role to adapt them to your student's levels and cultures. Click on any of these links to access the resource you need.

Wiregrass Georgia Technical College, located in South Georgia, is committed to preparing students for successful careers in an ever-changing workforce. You will find life skills lessons and resources and download books with orientation on how to use them in class. Again, you are a teacher responsible for selecting the content based on your class needs.

For free access to the Jimmy ESL website and its various worksheets, follow this link: https://jimmyesl.com/esl-reading-comprehension-worksheets/. Beware, some of the resources on this website will ask you to subscribe. It’s not my intention to make you pay for resources you can have for free. So, make informed choices. Here har links to the free resources:

Remember, some of the terminologies need to be contextualized. They might mean nothing to the students base on the cultural context in which they are. So, you need to explain using cultural context examples.

We all have to teach grammar, and our students know more about grammar teaching. They know that you will teach them that the rule of Simple present is S+V+C and that in the third person, they should add “s” or “es” depending on the verb's ending. That is the traditional ESL school. For you, a teacher of the 21st century who has access to billions of options, you can teach grammar differently and amaze your students. Jimmy got some ideas for you to adapt: https://jimmyesl.com/teaching-english-grammar/. This link gives ideas about making grammar lessons effective and not boring.

This very practical collection called Far Ahead has all 4 language skills + tasks designed for each skill. A collection of downloadable audio is also available.
