I just went to change my ringtone on the beta as the riling tone had defaulted back to Beep Beep and I noticed that the tracks I had in the Ringtones folder are again listed and could select one as my ringtone.

This latest developer beta weighed in at just under 900MB for our iPhone, though your model mileage may vary based on your device. The version number is 21B5056e where the "e" at the end will get closer to "a" as we approach release.

We thought that Apple could be ready to include the as-of-yet-unreleased Journal app with iOS 17.1, but as of this second beta that doesn't appear to be the case. It could still happen by release, but it would be unusual to not have it available for testing earlier in the cycle.

Beta 2 also returns the ringtones and text tones that were included with iOS 17 but absent in the first beta of iOS 17.1. The first iOS 17.1 beta was seemingly compiled before iOS 17 was released so they didn't make it into that first developer release.

Hi,

Having read that custom ringtones were supposed to be available again in the 17.1 update, I was very disappointed to find that mine don't appear to be there even though in files it says they are on my iPhone. I've tried importing them back in to music on my Mac then re-sinking the phone to the Mac but no joy. So I tried air dropping the files over and all this did was to make another copy of the files. I also did a soft re-boot of the phone in case the problem was a caching issue but again nothing.

Does anyone have any more ideas I could try?

I just checked and all my custom tones are there. The only thing I can tell you is that at iOS 17's update, they were only visible when I wanted to select a ringtone, not a text tone. Now, however, I have them in both sections. So that does not answer your question, but this might help us find a solution. I have the iPhone SE 2022 with iOS 17.1.

The new ringtones include Arpeggio, Breaking, Canopy, Chalet, Chirp, Daybreak, Departure, Dollop, Journey, Kettle, Mercury, Milky Way, Quad, Radial, Scavenger, Seedling, Shelter, Sprinkles, Steps, Storytime, Tease, Tilt, Unfold, and Valley. Reflection continues to be the default ringtone option.

Compared to the old ringtones, many of the new ringtones are longer in length and sound more modern. Apple has moved all of the prior ringtones to the "Classic" section so they are still accessible for those who prefer options like Illuminate, Night Owl, Constellation, and Twinkle.

With the iPhone 15 models, Apple added a toggle that prevents the devices from charging past 80 percent in order to keep the battery healthy for a longer period of time. In the prior beta, the iPhone would ignore this setting and charge past 80 percent, but that no longer happens following the second beta update.

If you upgraded your iPhone to iOS 17, you may be aware that it shipped with 20 new ringtones and 10 new text tones. Apple removed these when it released iOS 17.1 beta 1 last week. It was unclear why the sounds were no longer available, but the good news is, the new ringtones are back in iOS 17.1 beta 2.

One of the new features that Apple introduced in iOS 17 was StandBy, a new lock screen experience that turns your iPhone into a smart display when you tilt the device on to its side while charging. The StandBy Settings in iOS 17 were bare bones, but iOS 17.1 beta 2 adds more granular controls.

Apple appears to have fixed the 80% charging limit for iPhone 15 models. The option was not working properly in the previous beta, i.e. the iPhone would go beyond the 80% mark. It is not clear why Apple chose to limit this option to its new phones, this is a feature that older models should support and help users stick to their devices for longer. It would also reduce electronic waste from people discarding their phones due to dying batteries. I suppose Apple's eco-friendly marketing team didn't think about this.

iOS 17.1 beta 2 and watchOS 10.1 beta 2 now support the new Double Tap feature that was introduced during the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 announcement. The build number of the update is 21B5056e.

With Ringtone Maker, you can create ringtones and notification alerts from the music on your phone. Simply open the app, select your favorite song and save it as a ringtone. You can cut your ringtone any way you like, with editing controls that let you choose the start, end and length of your ringtone.

This also fixed a bug that prevented custom tones from being set and from widgets appearing blank in macOS Sonoma.

For years, the sound alert from Find My was the same, which was basically the sound of a classic radar. With iOS 16 beta 5, Apple introduced a new sound alert for the Find My app, which now has more of a modern ringtone vibe. Users running the latest iOS 16 beta can now hear the new sound alert by pinging an iPhone or iPad through the Find My app or a paired Apple Watch.

The ringtones on this website are in .mp3 format and is compatible with almost all mobile phones. Download ringtones and use them on Nokia Mobile phones, Samsung, Sony Ericsson phones, LG mobiles, Motorola phones etc...

On the best Samsung phones, you can have separate notification and ringtone volume levels. This makes sense, as you could want incoming calls to have higher priority than app notifications and set a higher volume for them. Google offered this functionality on Pixels back in the day but eventually removed it, linking the ringtone and notification volumes together. Pixel users have long requested Google to separate the two volumes, but the company never paid heed to their feedback. This could change later this year, with Android 14 offering separate ringtone and notification volume sliders.

Many Pixel users running Android 14 DP2 are noticing separate notifications and ringtone sliders on their phones. This was not the case when they initially updated to the latest developer build of the OS.

As Mishaal Rahman notes in a Twitter thread, Google has been working on separating the notification and ringtone volume since Android 13 QPR2 beta. You had to enable a flag to activate the change, though. With Android 14 DP2, it seems the company remotely toggled the flag to separate the ringtone and notification sliders.

It is unclear if this was a mistake or an intentional change from Google. Since this is not an API-level tweak, the separate sliders could appear in the next Android 13 QPR3 beta and go official with the June 2023 Pixel Feature Drop.

You can install the Android 14 Developer Preview or the Android 13 QPR3 beta to enjoy this change on your Pixel. Here's hoping Google separates the ringtone and notification volume sliders with either OS release later this year.

iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 also bring the ability to set the ringtone for each SIM line separately. Your business line, for example, could have a distinct ringtone to make it easy to distinguish between personal and business callers before answering.

As is the case with all beta software, you should backup your device before updating. It is generally not advisable to run a beta on your primary device. You should also be prepared for bugs and stability issues on any beta program.

Google is slated to release Android 14 to the public in August or September 2023. Ahead of that, the company has made the beta build of the OS available to Pixel users for testing. While still in the development stage, the Android 14 Beta packs several new features and enhancements that should make their way to the final release.

The Android 14 Beta finally separates the ringtone and notification sliders, so you can set their sound levels individually. This will enable you to set your ringtone for incoming calls to be louder than the alert for your notifications. Many third-party Android skins like Samsung's One UI have long provided this option, but it hasn't made its way into Android officially until now.

Additionally, iOS 17 has also added the ability to customize the Ringtone of your iPhone for each SIM Card. If you have Dual SIM set up on your iPhone, you can go into Settings>Sounds & Haptics>Ringtone, and then select your desired ringtone for each SIM Card. This is a useful feature, allowing users to differentiate and know which phone number is getting a call.

Do note that iOS 17 is still under development, it is currently only available to Developers for beta testing with it expanding to Public Beta Testers next month. For Beta Testing iOS 17 as a Developer, you need to have a Developer Account with Apple and turn on Beta Updates under Settings>Software Update. The update is expected to be released to the public in September this year along with the upcoming iPhone 15 series.
