Bagel was rescued from the border of Florida and Georgia after a rescue caught wind of someone planning on dumping 30+ dogs from a hoarder house in Florida. All the dogs were rescued and 10 of them were transported up north to Dog Orphans Humane Society. Bagel was in need of some foster rehab as he was so afraid of people that nobody wanted to adopt him. We had Bagel from December 22nd, 2023 to January 27th, 2024. He was not an easy foster as he came down with kennel cough just two days after we started fostering him. There was no trust built yet and taking him to the emergency vet was rough. Luckily he made a full recovery and that built an unbreakable bond between us. Bagel was adopted out for a short 3 months when he unexpectedly came back to us due to life changes with his adoptees. After he came back to us, we made the decision to make him a permanent part of our family and adopt him. Bagel even picked out his new name, Link. Link loves his two sisters and is a big fan of snuggling in bed with his parents.
Tessa came to us the day before Bagel was adopted as they came from the same hoarder house. Tessa was a nervous lady who liked a quiet environment and warm lap to sit on. We bonded with her very quick and she became fast friends with our dog Penny. Tessa introduced Penny to play wrestling and Penny became such a playful dog because of it. Tessa was with us from January 26th, 2024 to February 17th, 2024. Tessa was adopted by a lovely woman who was retired and stayed at home most days. Tessa was renamed Kelsey and has been living her best life ever since.
Lida was the toughest foster we had and ultimately the reason we chose to stop fostering. Lida was a very nervous, shy girl. We are unsure of her past but she never really came out of her shell during her stay with us. She bonded heavily with my husband, Anthony and always pushed our other two dogs out of the way to be right at his side on the couch. There was almost no interest in Lida at all and she ended up being our foster for much longer than expected from March 11th, 2024 to April 14th, 2024. One hour after Lida was adopted, her new owner told the shelter that she got off leash and bolted into the woods. We spent countless hours and days searching for Lida with no leads. After 3 weeks of searching, we ultimately had to come to terms that she probably didn't make it. May 21st, 2024 there was a post on Facebook with a picture of Lida. Lida was in Holden. My husband and I were thousands of miles away in Bermuda at the time with limited ways to contact anyone. After we came back from our trip we received a phone call from a woman in West Boylston saying she saw Lida. 2 nights of staking the area out in our cars and we finally had proof that she was alive still. On the 3rd night she was successfully captured by Massachusetts Missing Dogs. Lida was missing for 42 days and travelled over 20 miles from where she first went missing. Since her capture, she has been returned to her owner with no health issues or injuries.
