They just look much better. It looks comforting natural and visually more pleasing compared to 1080p. Maybe what I dont like about higher resolutions is them being sharp? I have noticed that  like 480p more when I had to use vpn to watch a documentary last year. I have tried 4k as well it feels better than 1080p but not than 480p.

I have at least 4 movies on my YouTube account which I purchased in the highest resolution option and for some reason in Oct. 2020 there was some sort of issue on YouTube's side which caused them to limit the movies to 480p...

Well it's Sep.2021 and STILL the movies are only limited to 480p - can you please explain why and when we can expect to watch our movies in full resolution? If you don't know or can't fix it, please allow us to refund them because this is basically stealing from us...I understand issues happen and nothing is perfect, but at the end of the day we paid for the full resolution just like we would if we bought a physical disc, so by limiting our full resolution purchase to a bare 480p (not even 720p HD) that's completely unfair to the customer...not to mention all other 4K content on the platform works, just not the PAID MOVIES...?

On a side note - PLEASE put a warning on the movies that users will be limited to 480p BEFORE they buy it! There's not even a warning label and I can imagine how many other people have fallen into this trap at this point.

For as long as I've owned my 48" LGC2 youtube will not give me the option to watch movies in 1080P. It will go as high as 480P. None of my Rokus have this problem. Only the youtube app on my LGC2. Any ideas as to what is wrong? All other videos play fine. Only movies are affected.

i just got my quest 2, after the oculus rift collected some dust in the corner of my room.

now i wanted to watch some of my movies which I bought some time ago on 'google play movies' and I am reading just now that this has to be done with youtube now and in the browser, youtube seems to not provide any more resolution than 480p.

now, I wonder if I could somehow get the movie (dune in this case, it hurts to see it in 480p) to run in 1080p (at least..) in my newly achieved quest 2.

Any idea why this is happening? I checked on mobile and multiple browsers on TV, it only has 480P option. I only get 720 and 1080P options on my TV. While that is my main platform I watch my movies, I would like to watch them on the go with higher quality as well

thats weird im currently watching ds9 and yea it doesnt look the best, its not that bad on my samsung 4k..if you want to see bad watch a movie or show from the early 80s or 70s thats not remastered lol...now that looks bad

I have a Samsung KS8000 65" 4K TV and I've had decent success getting 480p DVDs to look acceptable. I've been watching Stargate SG1 on DVD recently. I personally don't do a lot of streaming. You have to remember that 480p simply won't ever look as good as 1080p or 2160p, you can only work with what you've got.

some shows are actually not even 480p more like 480i or worse (yes ds9 is one of them) even then its the compression of 480p that they are sending out also. one streaming service may play it one way yet anothers compression makes it look better.

i have actual ripped 480p shows and there is a big difference from that to the same show a streaming service doing 480p shows. the ripped actually looks good on the 4k yet the streaming service is blocky or a different service there's would be good but still can tell its low quality

This is an older thread, but 480p probably looks terrible on your TV through Netflix because of the bitrate 480p content is compressed on there. I'll just make it easy: it's almost laughably close to how YouTube's bitrate at 480p is.

Secondly you have to create a Rendering Template to match your Project Properties. Vegas gives you many great templates with which to work with, but a few settings may need to be tweaked to get the best look. Follow along with my video tutorial and you can't go wrong.

Follow this link to my older tutorial on how to Render 480p Video if you are using the older Vegas Movie Studio Version 10 and 9:

How to Render 480p Widescreen Video for YouTube using Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10

I've been trying to figure out how to get 480p videos to direct play on a Roku Ultra that is hardwired to the network. It will direct play 720p and 1080p just fine. On the same TV, an LG, I can direct stream the same 480p movies just fine with the TV's version of the Plex player. The quality of the transcoding for the Roku is awful for some reason - that's why I've been trying to solve it. I'm not sure why it's requesting the transcoding. It is only transcoding the video portion.

I purchased multiple movies and some are available in 4k. On my desktop on every browser (Edge, Opera, Firefox, and Chrome) they are capped at 480p, but if I use my phone or my MacBook (on Safari) it will be capped at 1080p.

I will be writing a full review of SSX 3 on Playstation 2 but I wanted to post this quickly since it makes a big difference in my choice. The Playstation 2 version of SSX 3 supports both 16x9 widescreen and 480p progressive scan video as well as four channel DTS sound. SSX 3 is one of the best action / sports games available on any console. It is fast, has a huge scope, excellent control, and is incredibly fun. If you have any console, pick it up.

The Playstation 2 version of SSX 3 is available in 480p progressive scan. To activate it, press and hold both the triangle and "X" buttons on the controller. You will see the snowflake spin and then be prompted to enable progressive scan.

Release widescreen movies only with a one page explanation of the advantages. It will cut down production costs, inventory costs, shipping costs, and returns. Releasing widescreen movies only will increase profits.

Widescreen.org has an excellent article on the reasons for pan-and-scan. Contact Wal-mart and Best Buy and tell tell them to sell widescreen movies only. StarWars.com also has an interesting comparison of Attack of the Clones in widescreen and full frame. Even Lucas knows the difference even if he forgot how to make a good movie.

I have read several other posts regarding ongoing issues with Google Play Movies stuck on 480p via the built-in Chromecast on the Vizio Smartcast TVs (I just purchased an M55-F0 and SB3651, not knowing of this issue), I was hoping to post some of my findings and to look for any suggestions. After a short email discussion with Vizio, I was informed that Google places tunneling on their services and that it may limit the resolution delivered to the device (no idea what this means). I spent an hour on the phone with Google with multiple devices and various iterations of playback and found the following:

I keep reading that this is as being an acknowledged issue and that we will be updated when there is a resolution, but this has been the promise for almost a year. For me, this is unacceptable, especially as the gimped streaming options in Canada effectively limit me to GPM for movie purchases and rentals (I am not going back to iTunes). I understand that Vizio, per the following link, is not necessarily capable of providing 4K video, but capping out at 480p is a joke. I initially used the YouTube app playing GPM content but it is not capable of surround sound.

Hi im using Firefox 98.0.1 .. and whenever i try to play movies which are Hd 720p+ it plays capped at 480p being the highest. from what im understanding this is a firefox side issue and was wondering if there any fix?

For this era of video, the ideal display hedges upon the aspect ratio of the content your media library is concentrated on. Almost all display types will work fine for this content, but video will look relatively poor/washed out on modern 4K displays due to much greater pixel density and stretching of 480i/480p content.

Is there a good method to convert these files to 720p or 1080p without losing much clarity? We know any conversion above the original 480p will result in some quality degradation, but we're just looking for some avenues to try.

Nowadays, this resolution is becoming unnoticeable. It is because of the development of higher resolutions like 720p, 1080p, and many more. 1080p is most likely the best resolution many people are using today. This resolution is best for watching movies, TV viewing, gaming, etc. It is not a question of why many are interested in using 1080p in creating a video for a vlog. It is reasonable because of its good quality display. Suppose you want to experience 1080p resolution. There are 480p to 1080p video converter software that can fulfill your desire. And this article will introduce this software on how to upscale 480p video to 1080p cleverly.

1080p has a pixel measurement of 1920  1080, equal to 2 million pixels. 480p, on the other hand, has a 640  480-pixel count, which is equivalent to 307,200 in total. The difference is 1080p is six times more pixel counts compared to 480p.

You can convert 480p to 1080p but be mindful that upscaling the resolution can affect the image quality of the video. It is advisable to use software that can convert the resolution of the video while maintaining the quality of the images. 006ab0faaa
