Rent a Room to feel at Home

This furnished room and ensuite private bath is for one individual. Access to the room is through the front door to our home or through the private entrance to your room. Just outside your door you have a private patio and outdoor space just for you!

Our place is conveniently set in a peaceful and safe townhouse community close to public transportation. The Ride-On bus stop is just steps away. Shady Grove Metro is just two miles from the townhouse, and the MARC train is one and a half miles away.  It's a two-mile drive to Routes I-370 and I-270.

This room includes a designated parking space at no additional charge to you.

Your room includes all bedroom furniture including a full-size bed with a new, 10 inch, medium firmness, ultra-cooling gel mattress; a dresser; a chest of drawers with plenty of storage; a desk and ergonomic desk chair; a loveseat; and a small table and chairs. The room even has an electric fireplace for cozy nights! There's a TV with Roku, but no cable is provided, and you must subscribe to your own streaming services.  You have a large closet and lots of personal storage space, too. The space is artistically decorated, and since we furnish all towels and bedding, you have everything you need for a great stay. Our home is immaculate, lovely, and practical. You can move in with only your clothes, your phone and your laptop, and you'll feel completely at home!

On your level, there is also a separate utility room that includes a shared washer, dryer, and laundry sink. In this shared space, you have sole access to a mid-sized refrigerator as well as a private area for storage of your groceries or other items. There's also a cabinet stocked with dishes and cutlery to use for downstairs snacking.

While there is no cooking allowed on the lower level, you have access to the main-floor kitchen. Everyone in the house has full use of the kitchen, and you are welcome to enjoy your meals at the kitchen table or downstairs in your room. You can use everything in the kitchen - the stove, oven, dishwasher, dishes, utensils, pots and pans, and all small appliances. However, you cannot store anything in the upstairs fridge or cabinets since you have your own space for that downstairs. The upstairs folks need to share those spaces. 

You have access, free of charge, to our wonderful community pool in the summer and year-long access to the tennis courts that you can see from your window. There are many parks with good pathways nearby, too.

We keep a non-smoking environment both inside and outside. Sorry, no pets of any kind.

I've enjoyed hosting guests from various local institutions such as NIH, UMD at Shady Grove, and the International Guest Research Program at NIST for many years. I live in the home, and there is usually one other occupant upstairs.  You would make three, and you would be most welcome!

*Rent is $1200 a month which includes all utilities, Wi-Fi, pool in season, parking, and more. 

However, if you pay the rent on, or before, the first of the month, in any manner that allow the 

rent to clear my account by the 1st of the month, a $50 discount brings your rent to $1150! 

We use a standard Montgomery County Room Lease. A signed lease and security deposit equaling the amount of one month's rent holds the room. Your first month’s payment is due on the day of your arrival. The room is usually rented for 1 year. However, sometimes we're able to accommodate shorter lengths of stays. PayPal or Zelle are accepted for the initial deposit (please add any transfer fees). Showing me your NIST/NIH invitation letter, US Gov ID, or US Armed Service ID may serve as your background check.
