Who we are!

Pets can play a major role in our lives and our recovery. For some, a beloved pet may be their reason for getting out of bed each day.

The Best Friend Project realizes the roles that pets play in an individual’s recovery journey and in their lives. We want to make sure that our peers have access to pet food, pet supplies, pet owner educational information, and proper pet care - helping to make sure that our peers and their best friends can have a long, healthy, and happy relationship together!

Individuals living in recovery with mental health and substance use disorders, or domestic violence survivors - You are not alone!  We stand with you and so does your Best Friend!

What we do

Assisting our Peers in Webster, Pocahontas, Humboldt, Wright, Calhoun, Hamilton, Greene, Boone, and Story Counties!

Fill the pantries

Our goal is to see local food pantries in our region accept and offer pet food and supplies!! We are dedicated to collaborating with food pantries, grocery store, and local businesses, as well as hosting pet food drives, in an effort to make pet food and supplies more accessible to our peers!

Pet Owner Education

We offer training and educational materials on proper pet care and responsible pet ownership, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, proper nutrition, pet training, and the need for monthly flea, tick, and heartworm treatment.

Pet Owner Support and Advocacy

As a peer support specialist run organization, we offer virtual Peer Support and Peer Recovery Services, as well as assisting in advocating for peers with ESA needs. Contact us for information!

Community Outreach

Our community outreach program allows us the opportunity to get out into our communities throughout our region and reach our Peers, hear their stories, and share ours.  Find us at vendor events, donate pet food, pick up some educational materials, and tell us your story! We want to hear from You!
