使命與願景 Mission & Vision 

  清華校訓「自強不息,厚德載物」,自1911年創校至今百餘年,前五十年為「清華1.0」,以培養國家優秀人才作為文化的溝通者,以及現代化的推動者,期能消弭東西方文化隔閡,促進世界進步。1960年代後,由理工領域出發,逐漸擴及商管、人文和其他學科,培養許多優秀國家建設人才,推動社會迅速進步,可稱為「清華2.0」。現階段面對全球化的新時代,「清華3.0」乃重新煥發以人為本、培養兼通東西文化的君子型、世界級人才,使學生對未來世界有更大的承擔,用更遠大的人文關懷和寬廣的知識能力,面對現今世界所面臨的巨大問題。

  The school motto of the National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) is “Continuous Self-improvement and Virtue”. It has been more than a hundred years since the establishment of the school in 1911. We represent the first 50 years of the university as “Tsing Hua 1.0”, signifying our aim in cultivating outstanding national talents as cultural communicators and promoters of modernization to eliminate the cultural gap between the East and the West worlds. After the 1960s, NTHU engaged deeply in the fields of science and engineering, then gradually expanded into business management, humanities, and other disciplines. We produced many outstanding talents contributing significantly to the construction of the nation and the promotion of social progress, a stage that can be called “Tsing Hua 2.0”. Facing the current era of globalization, “Tsing Hua 3.0” is aimed to cultivate world-class leaders who understand both Eastern and Western culture deeply via re-emphasizing people-oriented education. 

  清華工學院目前已是世界前百大工程學院之一,我們的教育目標在於培育具備工程專業知識、創新思維、人文素養、團隊精神、全球視野及社會關懷的領導人才,多年以來對我國產業創新發展與產學研菁英人才培育貢獻卓著。面對全球化競爭愈趨激烈,培育具備國際格局及全面優越的語文能力之高階工程人才,更是刻不容緩的工作,然此工作須仰賴國際化學習環境的營造及提供學生充足的國際交流機會因此,我們認為EMI教學的推動是實現本院之教育理念最重要一環。

  Established in 1972, the College of Engineering (CoE) of NTHU is ranked among the top 100 engineering colleges in the world. The College has an outstanding performance and quality tradition in industry-academia research, and talent cultivation, and has contributed significantly to Taiwan’s industrial innovation and elite cultivation. However, the rapid change in the global environment has prompted vigorous global competition, particularly due to the rapid advancement of network and cloud technologies. As the cradle that nurtures the elite of our society, we must make corresponding actions in the innovations of research, teaching, social linkage, internationalization, and international connection. We believe that EMI teaching is the key to accomplishing these goals.

  因此,本計畫期望在2030雙語國家政策發展的支持之下,運用國立清華大學豐沛的雙語教學資源,並整合本院之師資及EMI教學能量,建置沈浸式英語學習環境,透過塑造國際化學習環境,讓學生深覺處於多元的國際學習環境,可以自然參與英文聽講、討論、報告與溝通,在畢業時具備優越的英文聽、說、讀、寫的能力,無縫銜接國外大學之語言要求,培養學生跨越力,成為具備國際格局之高階工程人才,以期對提昇台灣產業之國際競爭力做出重大貢獻。

  With the support of the nation’s policies on developing Taiwan into a bilingual nation by 2030, this project expects to use the abundant bilingual teaching resources of NTHU and integrate the faculty and bilingual teaching capacities of CoE to construct an immersive English-learning environment. By creating an international environment, we hope to equip our students with excellent abilities in listening, speaking, reading, and writing English, as well as the capability of thinking with international viewpoints on professional fields. Through the intensive effort underlying this project, we expect to greatly enhance our education leading to high-level engineering talent, and make substantial contributions to enhance the international competitiveness of Taiwan’s industries.

何謂EMI?

EMI全稱為English as a Medium to Instruction,意旨在母語或第一語言非英語的國家,針對母語非英語的學生,以英語作為主要使用語言,來教授學科課程的教學方式。

English Medium Instruction (EMI) refers to the use of the English language to teach academic subjects (other than English itself) in countries where the first language of the majority of the population is not English.
