Acceptance means to welcome our differences. It means showing respect for the race, religion, age, gender, opinions, and ideologies of other people or groups. It is about tolerance – having a fair, and objective, attitude to those whose faith, beliefs and thinking may differ from our own.

It is also about accepting ourselves for who we are and celebrating our own differences. Learning to express ourselves in a respectful way, even when we disagree with someone, we value their thoughts.

Our Utopia

As part of our Maze Runner unit, we discussed our personal idea of utopia and shared them with the class. Afterwards, we talked about the values we would see as most important in our imaginary world. There were lots of differences in opinion but somehow, through animated discussion, each group managed to agree with the hierarchy and were able to justify their shared choices.
