What is the population of Powelton Village? There are 52,480 residents in Powelton Village, with a median age of 22.8. Of this, 46.77% are males and 53.23% are females. US-born citizens make up 83.23% of the resident pool in Powelton Village, while non-US-born citizens account for 5.59%.
History
During the 1960s and 1970s Powelton Village became a center for counterculture and resistance to the Vietnam War. It also became a site of urban renewal and reinvestment, offering a recovering Philadelphia a very livable residential enclave just outside of Center City.

West Philadelphia
The Powelton Village neighborhood in West Philadelphia sits on the west side of the Schuylkill River, across from downtown Philadelphia. It was developed on the property of two large estates: the Powel estate and the Bingham-Baring estate.
Our Organization
Welcome to the home of the Powelton Village Civic Association (PVCA). We are an all-volunteer organization of residents dedicated to making Powelton Village a better place to live and work. We advocate for issues impacting our community, ensure responsible development in the neighborhood, help preserve historic buildings, organize clean-ups and social events, support neighborhood schools, maintain parks and playgrounds, keep our sidewalks and public spaces green, and much more.
The PVCA holds monthly meetings and sponsors numerous community events throughout the year. We welcome all residents of Powelton Village as members. Learn more about the PVCA here.
Our Neighborhood
Powelton Village is a residential neighborhood located in the University City section of West Philadelphia. It is a National Historic District with a wide variety of Victorian architecture. Powelton Village’s unique character is protected by a Neighborhood Conservation Overlay (NCO) on the Philadelphia zoning code. Learn more about the neighborhood here.

One of Philadelphia’s most beautiful best-kept secrets, lovely, leafy Powelton Village is characterized by its unmistakable mix of stately houses and quirky, colorful businesses.
In fact, the area features so many incredibly preserved examples of movements in Victorian architecture that it’s a designated historic district.
A number of individual residences are also protected by the National Register of Historic Places.

Getting Here
With Market Street as its southern border, Powelton Village is extremely accessible via SEPTA’s Market-Frankford Line and the No. 10 trolley. The neighborhood is also easily walkable, bikeable or driveable especially along Lancaster Avenue, its vibrant commercial corridor.
