What is "Bernal Beautiful"?

We are a neighborhood group dedicated to beautification projects in Bernal Heights and beyond.

How are you going about it?

We listen to our neighbors' stories.  We identify areas that can use a little love and attention, maybe it's an empty lot, a "paper" or "unaccepted" street, a neglected green space.  Many want to make improvements but lack the time, skills, or resources individually.  We work with community members to put projects together, help them find funding with grants or fundraisers.  Together we can make great things happen. 

Who gets to decide on the beautification projects?

Neighbors like you.  That's who we are, just neighbors helping each other out.  Participation is crucial and we encourage everyone to get involved, whether it is an hour a day, a week, or a month!  Fostering a neighborhood connection makes our neighborhood safer and more fun to live.

What is going on now?

There are many projects that are going on now!  Collecting litter in the neighborhood.  Restoring the hillside with native plants.  Community gardening.  What is your interest, we can connect you!

What is the focus now?

We want to bring public art to the Good Prospect Community Garden on Cortland.  We are expanding with more garden plots, curtesy of a Community Challenge Grant in 2023.  We believe in the power of art to enliven the neighborhood and revitalize the businesses on Mission and Cortland.  Bernal Heights has always celebrated and showcased their artist residents and we want to continue the tradition.
