As school counselors, BASCA members seek professional development, collaboration, and consultation relevant to the role of the school counselor based on the needs and resources accessible to the Berks County, PA area. In this spirit, the BASCA leadership team works to create, organize, and deliver four meetings each academic year to address trends in the profession and needs of the community.
Each meeting typically begins with a business meeting from 8am-9am followed by professional development speaker(s), workshop(s), and/or discussion(s), however, we typically facilitate one full-day in-service each Indigenous Peoples Day to meet the unique In-Service needs of school counselors on that day.
BASCA meetings are typically closed for 'members only', however we occasionally offer workshops and professional development that may also be relevant to related professionals (i.e., school nurses, school social workers, school psychologists, school administrators). As we aim to be inclusive in our programing and collaborative in our efforts to serve students, we encourage anyone who would like to attend our meetings to become a member of our organization. Our minimal membership fees work to provide compensation to paid speakers and/or scholarships to deserving students.
