I've more than 20 years of university teaching experience, first at the Department of Economics, Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia, and then at the School of International Development, University of East Anglia.
After moving to the University of East Anglia, I taught and convened an undergraduate microeconomics and a master's econometrics modules for more than 10 years. The microeconomics module focuses on development and students are introduced to frontier ideas from institutional and behavioural/experimental economics. In addition to the two modules, I've been involved in 2 undergraduate (Economics for Development 1 and Sub-Saharan Africa Development) and 8 graduate (Food Systems, Research Techniques, Microeconomics, Impact Evaluation, Welfare and Evaluation, Rural Livelihoods, Rural Policies and Environmental Economics) modules. I'm also convening an inter-disciplinary workshop on epistemology for PhD students.
While at Addis Ababa University, I convened many undergraduate modules including History of Economic Thought, Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Introduction to Political Economy and Principles of Economics.
Apart from formal teaching at universities, I was active in other teaching and training activities:
